Don’t beat yourself up
by: helperPNMS- don’t listen to this site romanticizing rush. It may be the most mentally tough week of your life. Most people get cut from all 4 top houses on the first night, and some people only get a few houses back instead of 8, and that’s okay! More people than not would consider themseleves to have had a “bad rush”. I don’t want to make anyone scared, but it is something to be prepared for! Good luck PNMS!

I wouldn’t say MOST people get cut from all four but a lot yes. Basically you just need to know if you do not know a single sole in any of those houses ( and aren’t a legacy which doesn’t carry as much weight but can get you noticed) there is a very good chance you will get cut this summer before they even meet you. Or a better way of looking at it is you just don’t make it on “their list”. Ofcourse this can’t be personal since they don’t know you!!! It still sucks but know that 95 percent of the girls that get a top house had some type of connection even if it was simply someone that knew of them from their hometown.

This is a good message so pnm’s have low expectations but it’s not accurate. Chi o always cuts the most first night but most girls have atleast one top house left after night one. This year will be weird with no round one! Kappa usually doesn’t give bids to girls not on their list before recruitment simply because they are lazy. Zeta and pi phi are just as good ( actually better) and girls will receive bids from them that don’t know anyone.

cuts will be brutal first round this fall. this will be a bigger incoming freshman class than last year so it will probably have a very large number of pmns.
with no typical round one, there's no chance for pmns to make a connection with houses they don't already know someone in.

Most girls in my group had atleast one of the four going into second round. This won’t be exact but in my group it was close to this……. Pref day and seeing the two we had left was where only like five of us had one of the top four. Three of us got into a top house, one got second choice and was “ok” with it and the other girl dropped:(. Or didn’t accept the bid I should say. I did have a loose connection from my hometown and was actually surprised I ended up in this top house. I would have been fine in my second choice as well if not happier to be honest. It messes with your head when you have a top house most got cut from and you feel unappreciative if you don’t rank them first. At least I did.
