connections--the actual truth
by: ntkConnections get mentioned on here as THE reason girls are in certain houses all the time, but actually connections can affect your rush in good OR bad ways. They’re really just people who know you from the past and know who you are irl, so they can see past your resume and looks. Maybe you’re from a tiny town in Nebraska and no one you know has ever gone here. You have no connections. But that can be a good thing! You’re starting with a clean slate. Like let’s say you’re from a big high school in big city Texas, and you know a few girls here in different houses. Remember that quiet girl in your geometry class you were rude and condescending to all through high school? Oops her older sister is in your top choice house here. She knows who you are, so she is one of your “connections.” The point is that no one should think that just knowing people in houses always helps pnms and if you’re going to rely on knowing people from high school, you need to be the kindest person you can be and hope all your connections stay positive!

It’s true connections can help or hurt. The problem is it’s very difficult ( not impossible) to get a bid from a top house without one. There are the occasional girls that really impress someone night one and that girl fights to get them off the cut list. Or maybe their resume was impressive enough to a bid back for round two. The girl who impressed someone night one actually has a better chance of getting a bid (because that active will fight for them all week) then the resume girl who made it though to second round. Those girls can make it to pref but may not be high enough on the list to get a bid from that house the next day. Top houses aren’t everything. It just makes for a less sad recruitment because no one likes to be dropped from ANY house.
