Rush Experience Gone Wrong

by:

I came into the recruitment process very confident that it would go smoothly and I would be alright…maybe even end up in a top house. I’m a smart girl, great GPA, extra circulators for days, good social media platform, pretty and have a fun personality. I had talked to some girls in houses to get to know people but didn’t have any deep connections. Coming from out of state where I knew literally no one screwed me over BIG TIME.

The whole system is rigged. I get it they have to cut girls because there are so many of us but that doesn’t make any sense to why I got dropped by half of the chapters after conversation round!!! They say trust the process but each sorority knows who they want before they meet people. I have friends who knew people in top houses and preffed with them because they had people on the inside pulling for them the whole time. Honestly so messed up. And I couldn’t understand why it was happening to me because every other girl I talked to still had top houses while I had 5 going into Philanthropy…. some girls didn’t get any houses back after the first round. It honestly sucks seeing all your friends who have friends in every house go wherever they want and not get cut at all whereas you got cut every round. I was happy with my house but now I’m upset. It really was the worst week of my life! Do not recommend:) lmk if you had a similar experience

Your experience is identical to mine. There was a couple of “top” houses I was really interested in because I loved their philanthropies. Like you, I was cut after the first round. Fortunately I gave the houses I had left a chance and regrouped. I may not be in a “top” house but I’m in the perfect house for me. I have made so many lifelong friends that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Happy with you house but now upset. Don't live in the past. What you can do now is help those girls that don't have any connections during rush. Why do you think so many houses have dropped their legacy policies, it is to even the playing field.
What did you except is for all the lower houses to drop you and to just have the top house's. Better to be cut early then later when you have more time invested in the house and then they drop you before pref.

so you are on the other side of recruitment as an active for the first time? do you now understand that there ARE “top” girls on ALL houses now? I hope this has opened your mind— bc it sounds like you still do not understand…

As an active in a top house it actually makes me so mad when people say “ trust the process”. That should be banned from this sight. And no if you ended up with very few choices because of being out of state then you didn’t “land in the right house for you”. I am sorry you had that experience. It really sucks. Dropping the legacy policy will help. Connections still matter most and there is no way of getting around that. Panhellenic requiring top houses to cut so heavy the first night to give other houses a chance will keep top houses top or seemingly more desirable. I am a senior this year and glad this was my last recruitment. To have my mom call and ask me why was so and so cut ( more than once) only for me to tell her I have no idea mom she just was sucks. These are great girls that were cut for no reason other than they didn’t have someone pulling hard for them on the inside. Whatever yalls bid card says tomorrow try and make the best of it. With great girls in your same boat you will make friends I promise!

These are social clubs, not honor societies. Connections do matter, just like they matter everywhere in life. That's not being rigged, it's one of the factors that matter in decision-making. Choosing between two equally qualified people, you would take the known over the unknown and don't pretend you wouldn't. And, yes, you were amazing in high school, but so was everyone else. Welcome to your first taste of adulting.

When things don't go your way they are not "rigged" and when people point out something that doesn't fit your personal narrative they are not "rude". Grow up.

If I went through recruitment in your home state with the same qualifications the same would happen to me. Its not a scholarship based on accomplishments. It’s mostly about connections. If you still have a house to go home to the system worked for you.

That simply is not true. If you live in Podunk towns like Little Rock then yeah, you HAVE TO to have connections. It is a must. But if you want a meaningful career & status in the REAL world then no, connections are not necessary. Who told you that, your daddy? They can’t help - unless you’re a Chi O from Little Rock and then they’re going to hurt you. But a résumé that exemplifies nothing but diversity speaks for itself, & along with the right grades and DIVERSE work experience, will get you a far better job and anywhere else in the World

Only an immature person would tell another immature person to grow up. If you were the mature one, you would present a decent argument and say it’s not you. Not you. No one here needs to go out more than you.

The Panhellenics are on here saying every girl finds the right house. Then some actives here are saying as long as you have great grades & rep, you’ll find the right house. And now there’s y’all saying you HAVE to have connections.

EXACTLY what this post is about. Not only did those here in the system lie to the pnms, they have multiple lies and can’t keep agree on them, so no freshman knows what to believe

@laughing - why would anyone want to hire someone merely because they know them? That is the WORST criteria ever. In the actual “adulting” world, the biggest and best corps lean towards diversity, and most discourage, if not outright ban, cronyism.
