Rush advice I wish I new

Hey friends! I came into the Greek system as a first generation and rush was very overwhelming so here’s what I wish I knew and what will help you have a great recruitment week.
When you are walking in the house, make sure your name tag is visible. It helps make sure the girl who is supposed to talk to you gets to talk to you.
Door songs: yes they are real. Don’t freak out. There will likely be an intro/outtro song for each house at least rounds 2&3. As tempting as it is to start taking notes immediately after you leave the house so you remember, stay and watch them with your full attention. They literally are relevant and don’t chose a house bc you like their song, but it’s considered rude to not watch the whole thing with all your attention, and I did not know that.
Bring water, oil blotting sheets and makeup to touch up, an umbrella, a snack, and shoes to walk between houses in your bag.
For philanthropy round, there are going to be houses that have you do activities that are related to their philanthropy . Yeah it’s a lil awkward trying to hold a convo and doing stuff, but the more normal you treat it, the better it goes. Also
For round two, google each house’s philanthropy before entering and try to think of a way you personally can connect or empathize.
Don’t listen to the girls in your walking/gamma chi group or hallway who act they know everything and you hear them say judgements after every house. I had this one girl in my walking/gamma chi group act like that, every time she came out of a house she would say something negative and would talk about ranks and there’s always gonna be that one girl, but to keep it in perspective that girl ended up getting dropped from almost every house. So don’t listen to what might be called tent talk.
Last but not least, is to modify your expectations. If you get dropped from a house you like, don't get all depressed and assume you just don't belong in greek life. Instead, just realize that there are hundreds of girls that could be in any house and our new member classes are going to have 150+. So girls are going to get released from what they thought were their fav. Do not give those that releasd you more then a minute.
Move ahead with new eyes and know that YOU are wanted. If you understand that you will have a wonderful greek experience with any house, you'll be able to rank every day according to what you like, not what greekrank tells you to like.

Remember a lot of the girls rushing you will be from PC20 and did not go through a "normal" rush last year, so they have no idea what they are doing. PC19 has only seen "normal" rush from the PNM perspective. So you may see some confusion and disorganization because nobody has done it before.

This!! You get that awkward conversation or dead air know they are just as nervous as you. Who doesn't want to be liked. They could just be getting use to this.
This is why no matter what you give whoever you have the next round your best foot forward. you just might have found your big in the last.place you thought.

Same here. So many girls were dropped from most of the houses. And these were good girls with great grades. I’m scared that means there will be even more competition for the few houses I have left.

Let the houses you have left know that you’re happy to be there. It’s a small thing but it means something to the girls working so hard to recruit you. Also do your best to be engaged in all of your conversations. I made the mistake of having shifty eyes when I went through recruitment because it’s a lot to take in but eye contact is a good way to show you’re interested! Don’t get too in your head about this initial cut. I had the same worry as you but I ended up finding my home and I’ve made so many lifelong friendships.

You only need ONE!!!!!!!
Take a deep breath, trust the process. It will work. No matter where you land you will find your tribe within your own letters. You will find girls just like yourself within 150+ pledge class.
Take another deep breath and exhale. You got this.

As an active, I support this. Especially the name tag, not only the recruiters but also girls who saying good bye and hello to you. It seem creepy random girls saying goodbye and yelling your name but it help them remember you and have a positive impression of you so don’t hide it. In the end you find your home! BE YOURSELF! I know way too many girls who faked their personality in order to go to a “specific” house they want and get in but hate it there!
