I’m an AXO and while I do agree our dues are way too high, I want to clear up that the price on the Greek life website is misleading. The new member dues for the fall are $2,128 but then they are a lifetime member in the spring so they pay $1,652 the next semester. If they’re a spring bid then they pay $2,028 first semester and $1,652 all other semesters. The website is misleading by making it seem that new members pay $2,128 in fall and $2,028 in spring. So costs are on par with other sororities

a lot of the reason for the price difference is meal plans. these houses include a meal plan in their dues:
AXO
Chi O
Kappa
Phi Mu
so while their dues may look significantly higher than other chapters, they’re also providing out of house members with meals (usually daily lunch and chapter dinner) whereas the other houses do not (possibly with the except of Friday lunch)

That is just ridiculous to have to pay for “some” people to eat at the house. Freshman will have already bought and paid for a meal plan with their dorm. Sophomore year all houses have meal plans for girls living in house. NO junior or senior will walk to maple to eat sorority house food. Just won’t happen. So I feel very bad for girls paying an extra thousand dollars plus a year for zero reason.

I think ZTA offers meals for members too. Lunches for all members sophomore year and above so that's included in price

DG does provide some meals. A certain amount of meals every week for out of house members, but not every meal at the house

Looking at the charts yes it seems like zeta and pi phi are great choices! Why would zeta charge more for juniors and seniors than new members? That makes no sense to me compared to the other houses. These are my top two choices 😃( distant connections in both) and I am also wondering if these cost get explained during recruitment.

Zeta charges more for juniors and seniors because they’re allowed to eat lunch at the house during the week while the new members can only eat on certain days

^ if that’s true and zeta charges more juniors and seniors to eat at the house for lunch that is just dumb. I am in another house and I can promise you ZERO juniors or seniors would have the desire to come and eat good at the house. I can’t imagine zeta is any different

Bargain shopping for sororities is NOT the way to go. If you have to do that now, you seriously may need to reconsider rushing next year

For those asking if these costs get explained during recruitment, the answer is not really. If you have specific questions I would ask your gamma chi and they can try to find out. You can also look at the costs on the Greek life website. But during the party, the house will not run through all the costs for you. But you can ask the girls you’re talking to if there is a meal plan included!

This is why Uark has the fee/dues posted. It is broken down for you to see. Please keep this in mind if $$ matter. It might make one house more desirable then another. I am not sure I would bring up dues but I might ask about in house scholarships.
