Message to pnms
by: HiWe have a HUGE number going through recruitment this year. If you’re one of those focused solely on “top” houses then it’s time to start taking a hard look at all the others. You’ve absolutely got to have an open mind or you will likely end up heartbroken. All 11 houses have a huge mix of personalities. You will find your group of friends in ANY house. Not saying this to discourage anyone but just trying to keep it real. You will be happy wherever you land if you give it an honest chance. Good luck to each of you!!

Here’s my advice to pnms. If the registration number is as high as is rumored, first cuts will be harsh. Don’t drop out of recruitment if you’re cut by the house you had your heart set on!! If you want to be part of Greek life do not drop out of recruitment!! If the numbers really are this high, odds are there will be no cob or spring recruitment and rushing as a sophomore is even harder. Go in on day one with an open mind and give each house a chance without prejudice or preconceived ideas. It’s been said time and time again but it’s true - there are amazing girls in every single house. You can and will find your people if you give it a chance. Top houses only mean they’ve been on campus longer and are more established. Those girls are absolutely not any better than girls in any other house and on the flip side, there is absolutely no girl too good for any house. Keep an open mind and open heart.

The higher number of PMNs doesn't mean cuts will be worse. I'm a math major, so here are some statistics:
According to UARK, 93% of women are placed.
This means that if there are 1500 women registered, 93% on bid day would be 1395. 1395 divided by 11 houses would make a quota of around 126. 126 x the 5 top houses is 630. This means that 45% of the bids will go to these houses.
Let's say the number this year is 2150. (Just a random guess, but the recruitment office did say it is a record number.) 93% on bid day would be 1999. This would make a quota of around 181. The 5 top houses would get 905. Again, 45% of the bids will go to these houses.
Unless the university enforces a lower quota number for the top houses, PMNs will have the same mathematical chances they've had for the many years. I would doubt the university would lower quota numbers for specific houses, but I cannot imagine having a pledge class of close to 200!!
Good luck to all those going through recruitment!
