LEGACIES LEFT OUT??
by: WOWFirst of all I never come on this stupid site but wanted to discuss this!! Recieved a letter today Zeta will no longer give ANY special consideration to legacies during recruitment. Not sure how I feel about this? On one hand we have grade risk that would not have made the first night cuts at zeta that bring down overall chapter gpa, on the other it’s special to share that bond with your mom, sister, ect…. Thoughts? Are other chapters doing this? This really is a game changer for pnm’s and sororities in a BIG BIG way

It is a national policy most sororities will adopt, but I highly doubt will make that much difference on an individual chapter level. Chapters will still know if you’re a legacy, and will probably be more likely to still give you a bid or at least an invite to the next party over a girl who isn’t a legacy. The new policy is good because chapter’s no longer have to invite back girls that have poor GPAs or are grade risks just because theyre legacies. Nationals are adding the policy to encourage more women (especially POC) to rush because it can be difficult as a non legacy to successfully rush.

Truth is this is what’s best for ALL chapters. Grade risk use to get an automatic invite back for the second round at my house ( pi phi) and because we are required to cut heavy the first night like the other top three we could have used those spots for other girls. Having to invite a girl back KNOWING we would not keep a grade risk at the end isn’t good for us or the pnm that could have been focusing on other houses.

this is a good thing! it promotes equality and is a step in the right direction towards a more welcoming recruitment. i know kappa and pi phi have both said they won’t favor legacies as well. i do think there will be some favoritism shown, but hopefully eventually rush will be more about each pnm and not their parents!

I would say they won’t hurt but won’t be the deciding factor if cut or not
