I'm a larger girl about a size 16/18 and not real tall. I've always been really active and have always had a lot of friends. I'm not really an "awkward " person at all. Was a student body officer in high school and relatively "popular" I really want to go through rush and even know some women in sororities at other colleges. My sister is in one at another college. But I'm really nervous to register. Like everyone, rejection can hurt. If a sorority drops me because they don't like me, I can deal with that (I know that we don't all jive). But if people are going to drop me with out even getting to know me, or if I'm going to bring down the group in the eyes of fraternities, then I don't want to join. I'm really torn right now. I want to try, because a feel like I could really grow from the sorority experience, and I feel I have a lot to offer. But I don't want to set myself up for mean girl stuff. Any kind and compassionate suggestions would be wonderful.

Size DOES NOT matter. If a house cuts you because of your weight, then you don't need them in the first place. That's very disrespectful to judge because of ones size. It doesn't matter how popular you are in high school, but how you are as a person and maturity level. Being in a sorority is the best decision I've ever made. Being on here makes it seem like it's awful, but it's girls being girls. This is not how it is in real life. Fayetteville has one of the best Greek systems. Always be yourself and never change for anyone!!!

I was exactly like the girl you described yourself as during my senior year of high school. I rushed and I don't regret it. I had several options, but when I did get cut from houses I couldn't help but fell like I had been rejected because of my size, but when I was preparing for rush within my chapter I realized that size really isn't a factor in recruitment at all. What is a factor is confidence, how happy you appear in the house, and the way you present yourself. Don't let your insecurities keep you from letting tour best attributes shine.

Size shouldn't matter, but it does. Honestly, go through and see what happens. But it's good to be realistic.

Sweet girl size does NOT matter at all! I speak for my own house to say that it is not a factor in whether or not we take a girl. Just be yourself and have fun and don't EVER EVER think you are cut from a house because of your size that is just absurd!! Best of luck :)
