How can a pnm be cut by all 11 houses?

by: Curious

Last year we had a 90% retention rate and this year 94%. An active told me it only because people are not open with houses they received so they just drop the whole recruitment itself.

I came here with a high GPA, school involvement, 2 jobs, leadership, volunteer experience, and recommendation letters. Got cut by 7 houses the first day and was left with 1 for sisterhood. Got cut going into pref. I didn’t drop, I maximized my options, I was enthusiastic to every girl I talked to during sisterhood. Some girls just fall through the cracks. Although most of that 6% probably is made up of girls who chose to drop, I know a few other girls who were completely cut. Sad but out of our control.

You are right. We need more chapters here. Alpha Gamma Delta is coming next year and they are a great sorority! I've heard rumors of another coming as well.

I know you know that your Recruitment experience does NOT define you in any way.

Many agree with you -- the system IS broken. Hang in there sweetie. Let's see what this time next year brings in terms of more opportunities for ALL the quality PNM's going through Recruitment.

Unfortunately there were some who were cut by all 11. This year was one of the hardest for recruitment with the whole virtual aspect.

Rarely are PNM’s cut by all chapters though it does happen.

More common is when a pnm carries top/mid chapters all the way to/through sisterhood and then is released by the chapters she had left. So earlier in rush, she was able to “cut” the lower tier chapters and then was left with no options. That almost happened to me except I was able to carry my chapter through sisterhood & Pref. I was terrified - went from “perfect rush” after Open House down to only 1 after Philanthropy.

Then the most girls drop because they don’t like what they have left.

Also 94% is AWESOME compared to other Greek systems. At Texas, it’s more like 70% pledge.

That is not a valid comparison. UT is twice the size of Arkansas but only has 4 more sororities; do the math.

That doesn’t matter. The “math” of RFM means there IS room for every pnm who gets invited to Pref. Look at how big the pledge classes are at Bama. It’s not because there are 20 houses or whatever they have now. It’s because girls know that every house is strong and will be a great experience.

25% of the girls who don’t get bids at UT drop out once Big 6 or Big 6+ the next 2-3 drop them. When over half the girls rushing absolutely REFUSE to be in the other 6-7 chapters on campus it’s a disaster. And that’s why placement rates are so low at UT.

My friend goes to Texas A&M and as long as you have the GPA required to participate in recruitment and don’t Single Intentional Preference, you’ll get a bid. I think they do this by putting girls who didn’t get their first choice high enough on the second choices bid list. If the PNM only has one, they’ll get a bid to the house they had on pref. Also, they extend quota of needed.

It sucks but it happens sometimes.
