Need advice please
by: Reid freshmanI know this isn’t the best place to come to for advice, but I’m desperate. Can’t talk to my gamma chi anymore and I’m so confused. I preffed 2 houses, and I hate to talk about tiers but I’ve got to say that one house is considered very top and another is lower middle. I LOVE the girls in the lower house and am just kind of “meh” about the other house. I keep getting told how lucky I am to still have that one house and how stupid it would be not to rank them first, but there’s something about them that I just don’t like as well as the other house. I know we have only met a very small number of girls in each house though. I guess I shouldn’t let other people’s opinions influence me,but I’m an 18 year old girl and that’s difficult. I do know that I’m very lucky to even have a choice and am grateful for that. Any advice from actives?

GO WHERE YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE!!!! That’s the horrible truth about this site - it forms biases! I promise you, PROMISE, no one on campus gives a crap what letters you’re wearing! You have to make the best decision for you. I have a friend who followed the hype instead of her heart and regrets it so much.

My advice is to pick the house you feel comfortable, loved, and at home with. You don’t want to spend thousands of dollars for something you feel “meh” about. Tiers only (sort of) matter for the next 4 years, but what will last forever is the friendships and memories you make. I’m sure you will find women you love in either house. Good luck!

While tiers don’t mean anything at all, usually when a house is considered a “top” house, a lot of other things besides exterior factors are involved. Usually “top houses” have better grades, are more involved in Greek life and on campus, and are full of more involved girls which builds stronger philanthropic service and sisterhood bonds. I’m not saying you shouldn’t go with the lower rated house because if you really love the girls more that speaks for itself, but there are girls for everyone in EVERY house and maybe you just didn’t get a chance to talk to the girls who are more your type in the top house! Good luck!
