Does sororities offer financial aid

by: Hmm?

I was wondering, do any sororities offer aid to girls who may have trouble affording their dues? Are there any sorts of scholarships?

I’ve never heard of anyone actually receiving the scholarships or aid from their organization to pay for their dues.

I wouldn’t come into this thinking that it’s really available, be prepared to pay the dues without aid. A lot of girls have jobs to help with the cost.

Why would you? That would be a violation of their privacy.

I’ve been on exec.

The chapters don’t just have financial aid laying around. The aid funds that nationals have are usually designed to assist members who have some sort of major tragic accident happen to them (ex. Family’s House burns down, both parents die in a car accident, etc.). Not general ‘i can’t afford dues.’

Most every chapter, in coordination with national offices, offer scholarship opportunities to deserving members based on a variety of factors. These scholarships help members defray tuition costs, etc.

Though it is something groups may need to think about to address inequalities in the recruitment process and Greek life in general, I don’t personally know of any help offered to reduce the cost of dues/membership, and offering such help would need to be done with great caution and discretion so as not to make any members feel “bottom tier,” so to speak.

You will not get any scholarships as a new member. Please don't take a bid away from someone if you know you can't afford to be in a sorority.

Trust me, nationals is not sympathetic to members who can’t afford dues or are going through a hard time financially.

They make you sign annual contracts and even if you drop because you can’t afford it, you are still financially responsible to pay dues for that contracted period. If you don’t pay they’ll send you to a collection agency.

They may offer a payment plan (it’s usually monthly) but don’t expect financial aid.
