Can someone explain cuts?

by:

I’m just a little confused about cuts because I was involved in numerous activities, clubs, leadership positions and community service. I have a good gpa and at least three recs for every house. I am in NO way a behavior risk. Me and my roommate are both transfer sophomores she got back six house and I got back two. She had no recs for any of the houses she got back. I’m just genuinely confused.

Does your roommate have any connections? One rec letter is the same as three. It’s a box that get checked. Surprised she got back so many houses with zero recs. It is more difficult to go through as a sophomore. I am so sorry today was difficult for you!

No she has no recs or extra curricular activities on her resume that’s why we were both confused and shocked about how cuts were made. I love both houses I have so still thankful to have them just wondering out of curiosity.

There are so many variables. Did you or her know anyone? Maybe her family knew connected alumni?
I know it’s hard- but try not to compare your recruitment with hers. There is just no way to know.
Hopefully you are looking at your options with fresh eyes. Wishing you the best.

There are girls with top resumes of leadership and activities in all houses. Promise.

Just because she didn’t solicit recs doesn’t mean the sorority didn’t find one on her.

It’s all a numbers game and the first day is the hardest. Good luck to you — I hope you find your people! <3

This is a perfect example of how all houses are great at UARK. You have an amazing resume, recs, etc. - you believe you should be in a top house but you only have mid to lower houses left. There are a 1000 other girls just like you that got cut from “top” houses. I am happy I got cut from a “top” house. I find them to be carbon copies of each other and very cliquey. I have found so many genuine friends that will last a lifetime.

Maybe she is technically a freshman and you are a sophomore. Second year students have a hard time getting into any sorority. You will never know but it shows that there are great girls in every sorority. It is truly just a numbers games. All sororities are about the same. They all do the same types of activities. They all have beautiful houses. They all have pretty girls and average looking girls. All have sweet girls and mean girls. Out of ~125 girls in your mc you find your tribe of 8-12 that you stick with and evolves, grows, changes as new people come and go. Have a positive attitude, be happy where you land, and use your leadership skills to make it the best sorority on campus!
