What Sororities Should Come Here?

by:

I’ve noticed we don’t have as many houses as other SEC schools, what sororities should colonize at UA? I’m thinking Theta (has potential to be top tier?), gamma phi, and AEPi could be great additions❤️

It’s taken AGD years to come here, and I don’t think anyone even wants them. Waste of effort to try to convince more to colonize here when we can’t even get 1.

Theta was here for a very short time- low numbers and other issues- l can see why they wouldn't want to come back- ladies it is a lot of effort to colonize a sorority- truthfully theta has struggled at alot of SEC schools but they are a great sorority

I believe back in the late 80s and 90s, there were a lot of cross cutting and flat getting dropped before pref bc chapters were permitted to carry a huge PNM load thru pref even though there was no intention of bidding a lot of the girls. Many chapters suffered bc of it.

Although I agree with many points above, I really do think more chapters need to come to Arkansas. With the amount of amazing PNMs increasing year after year we have almost reached a standstill. Having an extremely high rate of bids given is part of what makes Greek life here at the university of Arkansas so special. Making a decision of having membership classes be 150 or higher, or having the amount of bids decrease is a decision we will soon have to make if more chapters don’t arrive. It is crazy to think that we have the same amount (or close) of people go through recruitment as Alabama, and yet they have 18 chapters to our 11 (soon to be 12). Many schools with recruitment sizes as big as ours have 15+ chapters. After being a part of Greek life and the wonderful memories and life-long friendships, it breaks my heart to think sometime soon, beautiful and smart girls would not receive the same opportunities as I have simply because there are too many girls and not enough spots :(

In 2018, bama had 2,244 PNMs
In 2018, uark had 1,717 PNMs
If those extra 527 PNMs all received a bid, and every chapter took ~120 girls (about the average last year) we would need 5 new sororities. We just don’t have the numbers for that many new sororities. Uark rush is just not as massive as bama rush

It seems as if there is a constant of 200 or so pnms who drop bc they don’t care for their options. That seems to be a constant.

You stated that girls drop because they don’t like their options left, but adding new sororities will not help that, unless those girls are willing to be open minded and look at the “newer” chapters at UArk.

I personally don’t believe in tiers & think all houses here are amazing, but if you look at who is generally considered top 5 (Kappa, Chi O, Pi Phi, Zeta, Tri Delt), they were all chartered here from the 1800’s - 1930. The next houses On campus were ADPi in the 50’s, KD in the 80’s which are usually thought of as middle houses. The newest houses AOII, Phi Mu, A Chi O & DG were all started in the 2000’s and have had to work their way up from the bottom. (Again, I think EVERY house is amazing; these are generalities.)

So back to Patty PNM that is upset with her options who drops out of recruitment because the “First 5” have cut her. Do you think that having AGD/Theta/GPhi/APhi which will have to also start at the bottom and work up will make a difference to Patty PNM? No, she will still drop because she is too shallow to realize that she can work hard and create an amazing collegiate experience with a new sisterhood.

We were thinking the same- I should have specified. I mean pnms may not embrace newer chapters- thus 200 drop.
I think slow growth is positive and I think the way Arkansas Greek life runs their business is top notch. And really, it is not slow growth by any means. Phi Mu and AXO in 2012, DG in 2016. And I’m not clear when AOPii (is that correct lettering?) came to campus.
Sorry for the confusion. Pan love.
