GDI and I will march! How many scholarships could they have given with the money they spend building all those mansions? That’s some messed up philanthropy over there on Maple.

We could march and hold signs during their rush. We would be the peaceful side for sure. Some of those new girls might come running out and join our side once they see how mean most of those girls are inside most of those houses.

We are all more peaceful, educated, inclusive, open minded, kind, understanding, fun, honest, hard working, strong, independent and so much more than most of those girls.

@factcheck I think the point they were trying to prove is based on assuming or being told that the main objective of all these organizations is doing philanthropic work and why would any group of college kids need a 50 million dollar home to raise money for charity. I am assuming they think that the money spent building those homes would be better spent on scholarships or donations to different charities. Which would be a good point if they were talking about organizations that are founded and built around philanthropic work but they aren’t . I do not know enough about any of the organizations to know everything about what goes on. My common sense tells me like it would everyone who has common sense that groups of people can raise money for charity without needing a 50 million dollar home. Duh! Like we all don’t know that. Anyone can look at all these houses and know the main reason for all the sororities is to meet people and socialize. They are social organizations and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The members made the choice to build these beautiful extravagant homes to use for meeting and socializing with one another and they have every right to spend their own money however they want to. Everyone is free to pay however much they want to be a member of a social club or organization and use it to entertain themselves and socialize with others. Private clubs are in towns and cities everywhere. Members go there to eat, play golf, play tennis and socialize. These private clubs may host one or two charitable events a year but it it is not the clubs main purpose or the reason why anyone joins. Please fact check and use a little common sense before assuming something completely wrong. If you do not want to pay the money it cost to join and be a member of a sorority you don’t have to join just like you don’t have to join any private club.

Look at comment above! Imagine being so privileged that you think if anyone stands up to racism and for social injustice it’s because they didn’t let you in a sorority. This is exactly who these people are and what they represent. They fool no one.

@bruh stop. Just stop. You’re an embarrassment. You are the problem.

So what is your plan to rectify all these wrongs? What are the measurables you would use to chart your progress? From an outsider’s perspective, It looks like the goal is the complete dismantling of the Greek system because it does not meet YOUR standard of diversity. Is equality of outcome more important than equality of opportunity? Do you propose we violate the 1st amendment right of freedom of assembly?

Don’t forget when the Greeks assembled back in April for a crawfish boil and send out all those lovely tweets about how they’d all be billionaires and we would be serving them fries through a drive thru!

Since you didn’t answer any of my questions - I will assume you’re against the 1st amendment of the US constitution. Additionally you don’t really care about diversity in GLO’s or you would join, and you have no idea what would constitute progress. Anecdotal evidence to demonize hundreds of thousands of people? That’s the best you can do?

do you guys think that a march during rush is gonna get rid of greek life? this university would not stand without the support and funding of greek life organizations and we are all actively trying to make better decisions and fix the culture that our founders created.

I think a totally peaceful gathering with statements on signs about what needs to change about Greek Life is ok. I cannot imagine anyone being opposed to that. What do you mean that the university would not stand without funding provided to the university by Greek organizations? Do the Greek organizations pay the university a few yearly to have their organizations on campus? How does that work?

Every member of greek life pays dues, part of our dues goes straight back to the university. We pay to be on campus. The beautiful greek theatre in the dead center of campus? That wouldn't be here without greek life. Not to mention greek life members are the most involved students on campus, most being involved in ASG and other RSO's. I agree greek life needs to change, but signs during rush week isn't the way to do it. If it makes you so mad, join one yourself and make the change happen, that's what the rest of us are doing.
