AOPi and DG Eliminate legacy policies

by: Yee

Legacies are to be viewed in the same light as other PNMs at these chapters now in the name of removing barriers to membership.

All should, especially at Arkansas. Way too many legacies, too few spots.

Across the board at all colleges AOPI and DG are not giving any special treatment to legacies?

Correct, this applies to all chapters. Legacies are no longer automatically extended an invitation to the 2nd round. This opens up the houses to more diversity, more inclusion.

LOL I had to go and read the DG comments, they really are not happy! Wow!

Come on alumni, be better!! Our generation should not be the only ones responsible for bringing about the much needed change in the world! Legacy status for your kid is not life or death!! Y’all call us the “everyone gets a trophy” generation, well you’re the ones happily passing them out!!!

But I’d like to point out their views do not reflect our sweet DG house here!!!

Also cheers for AOPI alumni! I went to their Instagram post and all but one comment was in complete support!!

Omg my brain hurts from reading that so many boomers with instas 😵
Just goes to show how out of touch alums can be with the current state of things as trivial as their sorority. Did they ever think of volunteering and being an active alum for just the good of it and not so their sweet Susie could have a pass getting into their sorority?

It’s so unfortunate but we all have them. My chapters local Alumnae association is brutal you won’t believe the things they say and support and believe.

This is important today. I am glad to see DG and AOPI (as a whole, not just our chapters) making a real effort. Sadly since these are considered lower houses here, no one even cares! I’m sure other houses are in the same discussions now but it’s time for them to step up! We need more diversity, more inclusion and no more entitlement!

legacy policies are discriminatory (whether intentionally or not) since sororities are historically white.
