Rec Letters and Connections

by: pnm

Does uark really take rec letters into account? Do I need to be sure to get them all, or could it potentially hurt me in rush?

Also, how great do my connections need to be? I have lots of friends in sororities in the Midwest and some in SEC schools, so would that help? My step mom is the only familial connection I have to sororities, and her sorority isn't at uark.

Of course we use them. And if you can make connections with sorority members at UArk, that's what really counts.

So is it okay to ask an active uark sorority girl to write a letter of rec? I read through the recruitment rules yesterday, and I know there's a lot of restrictions on active members contacting PNMs.

lol that is not how it works. get an alum or nothing. no actives should be involved in your recruitment process before actual work week/ rush.

If you have a rec letter from someone who graduated from uark does that give you better chances of getting a bid? Even if the person graduated a while back

it will never hurt to get a rec letter. obviously it can be hard to gather a lot, especially with limited connections. try and reach out to recent alums to see if they'll help you out. some houses require rec letters to extend a bid, but they'll have an alum write one if it comes down to it at the end of recruitment. connections can help, but I know many girls who went through with none and made it into their desired house by just being themselves. don't stress yourself about the logistics; it'll all work out.

But be honest with the pnm. Yes with zero connections ( by connections I mean someone on the inside shouting your name to girls) you can end up in your desired house but also know if you get from some of your top choices it’s not you. It’s a numbers game and ofcourse those with connections have a better chance. Current girls in houses with obviously pull for their friends, cousins ect....

Get recommendation letters for every house if you can! Not having them will only hurt you. Also do not rely on a great recommendation letter or legacy to get you a bid into a sorority! There were a ton of girls heartbroken during recruitment because they got cut from their legacy house, so please keep an open mind so you aren’t disappointed
