Getting into a house
by: pnm2020
Hi everyone! I've been spending a lot of time reading up on Greek life here and I wanted to know how hard rush is for girls coming from out of state. I'm coming from really far away and don't have any Greek connections, but the houses I've been most interested in because of their history and philanthropies are ADPi, Tri Delt, and Phi Mu. How hard is it to get into these sororities seeing as I'm coming in from so far away? Does anyone have any tips?
Thanks so much!

so i came from out of state as well and knew a few girls from a few different houses- but ended up in a top house that i knew no one in and had 0 connections to. grades, personality, reputation (and social media does play a factor, especially if they don't know you- that's the first thing they look at), play a huge role. this summer i would make sure your social media is completely clean (helps if it's cute too- i know it's stupid), and that you're practicing up on your conversation skills. appearance matters too so make sure you look presentable and cute for recruitment. connections definitely help- but you can stand out to any house based on your conversation and it will help you not be overlooked. be yourself and you'll end up in the house you're supposed to be in! best of luck

also ^^ i talked to a couple girls during recruitment when i was recruiting on the other side, who no one in the house knew or had connections to and i had great conversations. i made sure to let other members know about them and i wanted my friends to talk to them too. if members really like a girl that they meet during recruitment, they can recruit them hard for each round, even if they didn't know them before. we have gotten many girls on bid day who shined during rush who no one knew before

Hi girl, these houses are great choices filled with sweet people! Work hard this summer to build up your recommendation letters and resume! Looks is not everything but it doesn’t hurt to look presentable and put together (as you would for a job interview, etc) be yourself and put yourself out there! Rush is a tough experience so don’t give up and try to make friends along the way! I met some of my best friends through recruitment

To be fair to pnm’s........this persons situation is extremely rare. Coming from someone in a top house and has been on both sides of recruitment, connections matter above all else. Is it possible to get a top house bid without connections? Yes. Is it probable? Nope.Not.At.All.
