pc ‘20 hopeful here,
i’m from texas and i’m wondering why everyone is talking about girls from arkansas (mainly little rock).... do i just not have a chance of getting into a top house if i’m not from arkansas? i thought a bunch of girls that went through recruitment are from texas so i assumes i would be fine

I think there are lots of reasons why houses consider Arkansas girls. 1.) They are more likely to stick around all 4 years and not transfer to somewhere back in their home state. 2.) They tend to be the daughters/nieces/granddaughters of former sorority members that attended the university. Arkansas didn’t become Texas North until 10ish years ago. This used to be a school with very few out of staters and lots of girls from small towns and Little Rock. 3.) they are more invested alumnae because they are close enough to attend games, hear local news, etc. When we built our new house they told us that 80 percent of the donations came from alums that lived in Arkansas. 4.) This is our flagship school and the one you started cheering for in the womb. Our alumnae networks are strong in state and solely focused on our one school. So if you are from a high school in Little Rock you may have 100 sorority alums that all attended Fayetteville in your corner pushing for you, while if you are from Texas or Missouri that just isn’t happening.

The older sororities are ruled by old alums and arkansas tradition. They are holding steady to keep their small town, Arkansas girls in their legacy houses. Its their state school after all ... its hard for some of these people to see Texas kids coming in droves. I have heard out of state girls who are in some of the long standing sororities here with a lot of Arkansas girls, say they don't like it as much or it takes awhile to find their group since it can be like 13th grade in some of these sororities. Truth be told, Arkansas girls are a lot different than Dallas, Austin, Houston and Kansas City girls. There is definitely a small town feel to the whole state. They all seem to know each other and are a little more small minded.

Let’s be honest. A lot of the issue Arkansas girls and alumni have with Texas girls is that they are jealous. After all, the university is giving all there scholarships money to strong Texas kids (I would know, I’m on of them). We come from more money, more opportunity, more connections in the real world post grad, etc. a few sororities, I would say mainly chi o, are deep rooted in Arkansas alumni and Little Rock is where most of their money comes from. Some others, like kappa and sort of pi phi, are like that too but honestly not as much. It really doesn’t matter. Every year chi o gets a few cute LR girls, who go on to be on exec and then move home and come back for every bid day. That’s probably not the type of girl you want to be in 2019 anyway. I wouldn’t worry about it. If you have a good rep and connections you’ll still have a far shot at the more modern houses like pi phi and zeta!
