snap bids!!

by:

Snap Bids are way different than COB. Snap Bids are looked down upon just because the TOP houses don't do them. Such a dumb stereotype. This is where rush numbers were rough (sounds familiar) Great girls were cut and when the final numbers were computed a few houses might be on the low side of totals. Then snap bids happen. This could be on bid day or a few days after. If for any reason you are offered a snap bid and want to be part of greek life this is a great way to do it. I know of girls that were told no bid on bid day but the next day they are called and offered XYZ. BOOM you have it but you are way stronger because you have faced the worst. Chapters try to keep this on the down low because other chapters want to say XYZ had to offer snap bids. Just dumb. Lots of girls fall through he cracks and this I one way to level the playing field.

I listened to tent talk so many years ago at a univ in Texas- not of Texas- and I dropped after pref- was snapped bid day. Went on to leadership positions in pledge class (not sure they do that anymore) and then later in my chapter. Best thing I did. If you are offered a snap- they really want you. Best of luck.

@sourgrapes, you have some wrong info and/or are not using correct rush lingo:

If a chapter does not bid match to their quota (not “totals” which you said), then they can snap bid up to quota. Snap bids MUST be extended and accepted before Bid Day starts.

After Bid Day, any bids accepted are from COB. They are not snaps. After bid day, Pahellenic will reset Chapter Total (not “totals”) and every chapter below total (which is the median chapter size) is eligible to COB.

Daughter was extended a bid a few hours after bid ceremony. She was so excited and accepted.

What house did she go to?

Mom- not sure it would be wise right now to give up the house.

Let’s support all of our houses and be happy for more Greek women.

The numbers go up and down each year.

Congrats again!

This is a thread about snap bids, so I think it’s ok to ask which house offered her a bid! Not trying to demean a particular house.

What happens if you got a bid but decided you won’t fit? Any recourse, other than just dropping out.

Give it some time!! There are 100+ girls in your PC, 400 or so in your house, surely you can find your squad. Go to things, get involved before you make a final decision.

But if I drop, can I do Spring rush. Or be picked up after I drop

Give it until initiation! You can still rush spring as long as you don’t get initated!

Copy/Pasted from Panhellenic Recruitment Rules...

A signed Preference Card or a Continuous Open Bidding Acceptance Card is binding. If the potential member receives a bid under the preference system, she is ineligible to be a new member in any other national fraternity on the same campus for one calendar year. If the potential member does not receive a bid under the preference system, she is eligible for continuous open bidding. If the potential member transfers to another campus during the year, she is eligible for pledging on that campus, at the earliest possible opportunity.

You signed a bid card- so I believe you are ineligible this semester. Possibly spring, but maybe have to wait a year. I am unclear- but you need to make sure before you decide to move forward.

It takes a little while to find your people. Most girls who are w their 2nd choice agree in a few months that they are happy to be where they are. It makes sense. Hard if you are comparing your experience w your hometown acquaintances.

You can’t go through any kind of recruitment, including COB for one whole year if you have signed a pref card

You’ve gotten bad info ^^^. According to the MRABA (Pref Card) you signed on Pref night, if you got a bid and decline or drop before initiation, you are ineligible to participate in any informal or formal rush activities for one year. So if you drop before initiation, you can’t rush again until Fall 2020 and you can’t do spring or fall COB.

Your very best chance at ever going Greek is the bid you got. Try to make the most of it. Meet up with your pledge sisters. Hang out with your big. Make study dates or coffee dates. Arrive early for meetings and go to every single event you can. If you give it your all until initiation week and you still haven’t made ANY friends, then drop right before initiation. But don’t drop now. Your emotions are high from rush not going your way and not being happy with your bid.

If you drop it’s likely you’ll never get another bid so just be sure you’re really ok with that outcome.

There’s only one new member invitation card. There’s no such thing as a snap bid card. :)
