no variable quota this year
by: MemberI heard national Panhellenic has ruled against any school doing variable quota because it has not been as successful at other universities as it has at Arkansas. Hearing every chapter will have the same quota. What are y’all thoughts on this? I honestly thought variable was good and working.

It's called quota additions. When girls do not intentional single preference and rank 2 houses at pref but dont match with either house through the computer matching process. They manually look at those girls' pref cards and ADD them to one of the PC's.
This is all done before the houses are given the lists so no one will ever really know who of those 5 girls in ZTA's PC or any other group that is over 115 is

People are confused. First of all, Quota is never decided ahead of time, it is completely based on how many PNM's are left at the end of rush week. More PNM's participating = more bids. Secondly, Variable Quota was a thing here a few years ago but not now. It intentionally restricted stronger recruiting houses to a lower Quota and allowed less strong recruiting houses a larger Quota. This was to help some newer or not as strong chapters to increase their numbers to reach equity in membership, which happened and is not in place anymore. Now, each chapter has the same Quota; however, chapters can still take more than Quota because of Quota Plus. Quota Plus is in place to allow every PNM who attends Pref to get a bid if she doesn't leave a house off her card. Quota Plus happens because some PNM's that are lower on houses' Bid Lists don't get a match before the houses reach Quota, so instead of going all the way to Pref and then not getting a bid (used to happen, very very bad) these PNM's will still get a bid even when it puts a house over Quota. That's why some houses take more than Quota - it's Quota Additions, NOT Variable Quota. Got it?

Thank you for this explanation! I think I understand.
If a PNM makes it to pref then they’ll get a bid, correct? Does that mean some PNMs don’t get to pref round and don’t get a bid at all? That worries me — especially with recruitment 2022 being so large.

as long as you don’t “suicide” and only put one house on your bid card (assuming you have two houses at pref), then you will get a bid. remember all it takes is one house-and that’s all you can pledge anyway.
some girls won’t make it to pref. they’ll get mad that they get cut from the house they thought they wanted and drop. or the most inexcusable reason is that they go into a house with the mindset that they want a certain house and don’t give others a chance. they act like they don’t want to be there and are rude and hateful. any house will cut you if you act like that.
just give everyone a chance, be yourself, and it’ll all be fine.

i wonder if it’s possible to not have pref houses? a girl on my floor claimed she didn’t and therefore “dropped out”. said she went from five to zero? i always wondered if that was actually true.

Yes, it is possible to be cut before the preferential round and be released from rush. But the far more common scenario is pnm's voluntarily dropping out because they did get invited to pref round but didn't like their choices.
