out of state

How hard is it to rush if you are from out of state and don't have a lot of connections?

Not hard but don’t expect a top house. Be open to everyone. Every sorority offers sisterhood, social functions, philanthropy, etc. A lot of the time the further you live from Arkansas the lower the house. While there are girls from everywhere in every sorority, they do tend to be from regions. For example, Kappa and Chi O are Arkansas girls and wealthy Dallas. Zeta and Tri Delta more Dallas Suburbs. ADPi, DG and AXO tend to be Houston, St Louis and Kansas City

I’m not the OP but I’m coming from really far away (not even the South). I have excellent grades and a few decent activities, plus volunteering and work experience. Looks are average-ish. Do I have any chance at anything above bottom tier? I don’t care about tiers much but I do care about having more than a few options

Don’t worry about tiers. Every house has high gpas, pretty girls, beautiful mansions and strong sisterhoods. This is the south and even a lower tier house here could be a top tier in the north.

I was OOS with a 4.0, 33 ACT, 300-400 volunteer hours and work experience and was cut from top houses for no connections. It is unlikely you will get a top house, but like “Not Hard” said, every house has the same kind of events, you will like your house and make friends

What kind of cuts did you experience? Did you end up in a mid or lower house?
Just want to know what to expect since I’m similar to what you wrote.

I was invited back to 5 houses after open party (the most you can have is 8) and received a normal amount the other days. I’m in an upper bottom house based on typical GR ranks. Love it and wouldn’t want to be in a top house knowing what I do now, but I relate to the disappointment of being cut from them

I’m OOS and had an upper 20s act with no connections. I did not have a 4.0, but I met grade requirements and was kept by max amount of houses everyday. I ended up in a top house, but I had multiple recs for every house

To previous poster... you think it was your Recs that provided you with such a good recruitment? I tried to secure one rec for every house, sometimes two but then stopped. I thought it was just a box they checked??

I’m the previous poster and I think I had a perfect resume, met grades, got recs, and had great conversation skills / presentation. I made sure no connections was the only thing I really lacked

I’m the original commenter and I will say I also had 35 hours coming in which technically made me a sophomore and I’ve read that some houses will cut you for that. Not sure if this is true or not, haven’t been through recruitment on the other side so can’t say.
