only 1200 pmns this year...

by: Wondering

There’s only about 1200 girls going through recruitment this year. Why do we think that is? It’s 500 less than last year and honestly I wonder if some of the toxicity on this page has discouraged girls from signing up.

This site is so full of hate and negative comments, I don’t doubt that some PMNs say...no thank you and decide not to go through Recruitment.

Instead of building each house up, and showing Pan Love, there are so many negative comments. Posts tearing down some houses, posts acting like some houses share a chair with God, dang if I was looking at this site as someone not in a sorority, I might say, never mind too. Who wants to spend their time with such negative people?

I’m in a house and absolutely love it...but looking on this site, who’d know there are nice, genuinely good people in Greek life, the majority of the comments are negative/mean girl/hateful.

Thought this was about unity and philanthropy. With all the lower house bashing, I would gravitate there to escape the mean girl atmosphere. I saw so any post where people were bashing PhiMu for self rating, of course they want to build themselves up, why not ? And how do you rise anyway? Get a great pledge class that has a hard earned 3.36 Gpa, through circumstances the upper houses won’t even inversigate? Their loss...what if someone had an accident and missed half their freshman year, no credit? It’s sad that not everyone has the same chances. With so many new and out of state girls, how do you ever get in? Also, how do the houses see your social media?

Being open minded really helps you having a good recruitment.
If you are open minded, have a somewhat decent gpa- you’ll do fine. As recommendations come in- actives will start checking your social media if public. Some at different times. Wishing you the best.

I’ve heard freshman/ undergraduate enrollment is down this year so that probably plays a role in the numbers being lower. Still a great number though!

that is correct, enrollment for the university overall is down which is probably the reason there are less pnms. still looking forward to a great recruitment season though!

Please don't credit greekrank with having so much power to influence one of the largest and moat sought-after recruitments in the country. You give this site way too much acknowledgement and power when you do that. Admissions numbers have peaked nationally and are beginning to trend downward. Other considerations are that more foreign and minority students are making up the freshman class and they are less likely to rush. If you hate this site then go after the advertisers.

I think this will be really interesting for the top houses. Pledge classes will be so much smaller so cuts will be harsher. There won’t be room in a pledge class to take 30 Central Arkansas girls or 30 girls from NWA. They will have to space things out a but it geographically just to accommodate top legacies.

Mid tier houses seem like they will benefit because top girls won’t all get KKG or Chi O if there are less than 200 spots.

Hadn’t thought about that. The trickle down effect will make every house rise. Almost 1,500 girls. A few hundred will probably drop like normal after the first few days. So say 1300 girls or less divided by 11 houses would be 118. And the top 6 or so houses will probably be way less than that.

I like the idea of smaller classes. More people will be able to live in the house and pledge classes will be closer. But i think recruitment is going to be brutal just based on numbers. Especially if you are from a larger town in Texas or Arkansas.

I heard that KKG has a TON of in house legacies this year.

Im totally trying to understand what your saying so bear with....but are houses required to take a certain amount of girls from certain areas? Someone said that it will be harder from girls from larger cities in TX or ARK? Why is that? Because of the potential number of legacies? Just trying to understand...

No, sororities are not required to take any numbers based on geography or anything else. Each sorority chooses their members as they wish. This particular thread is addressing the houses that are given a lower quota because they are so big already. These houses can't take all their legacies because that would be more than quota so they limit the ones they will take to the tip top only, then some spots will go to the connected pnms from certain towns and high schools and family friend circles that could also fill an entire class so they will be limited as well, leaving a few spots for highly desired pnm's because they stand out in some way and the house just really wants them. This is just for the lower quota houses only.

Greek numbers down nationally so of course they’re down here too. Greek life getting bad rap a lot more places that matter than GR.
