second thoughts

I’m questioning whether or not to go through recruitment (I’m already registered). I know I should take what’s posted on this website with a grain of salt, but there was one thread (I can’t remember what discussion post it was) that made me question if Greek life if for me. I’m from out of state, I’m not a legacy, and I just come from a regular family in the suburbs. I’m not super pretty, I don’t come from “the right zip code”, and I don’t go on super extravagant vacations (like I’ve been seeing on the Sorority instagrams). At orientation my small group was mainly wealthy girls who are doing recruitment and for the first time in a very long time I couldn’t help but feel out of place (my roommate had the same experience at orientation). Many of my friends are shocked that I want to go through recruitment because “I don’t seem like the type”. I’m hoping that the people I meet during recruitment aren’t like the people I met at orientation or have the characteristics of the people that are talked about on this website.

ALL kinds of people rush here!! You’ll find your people no matter what “type” you are. With 1,800 girls rushing, you don’t need to worry! Those girls were not a representation of all Greek life!!

There are many actives who do not travel extensively as the IGs seem to imply. There are many who are relaxing at home w their families, working, or taking classes this summer. Come thru and you will see. 😊

And there are many, many actives who are not from Arkansas and did not know tons of girls before recruitment. There is a place for everyone.
The thing about social media is the best Picts are selected for a page.
Come thru and you will see. Tent talk is usually from the Arkansas girls who had their mothers sorority symbols monogrammed on their crib blankets as infants. They can’t help it.

Please don't let social media discourage you. I guarantee the majority of incoming freshman and going thru recruitment are exactly like you. People always like to put on the best front. But reality is exactly that...Reality. Don't let second guesses get in the way. Do it. You will be glad you did. Go with an open mind and you will find your sisters

I’m going to be honest with you, I felt the same way. I’m OOS, not a legacy, and only knew a few girls in the “bottom” houses. I disliked most of the girls in my gamma chi group for various reasons, but ended up bonding with another girl who was rushing just cause “that’s what you do.” We talked all week and decided we aren’t “typical” sorority girls, and that’s okay! We pledged different houses but we are set to be roommates next year. I met most of the girls I’m friends with in my sorority, not at our events, but on campus and just because we were both wearing the same shirt in class, at church, etc. I can’t say you won’t feel like you don’t fit in at some point, because likely, you will feel that! But know that there are a HUGE chunk of girls who feel the same way. Girls love their house regardless of tier, so don’t let this website go to your head too much!!

i would say im not the type who would typically rush and join a sorority, especially at a huge ass school like uark. rushing was really scary for me but i ended up in a house that i really love. honestly freshman year in the sorority hasn't ~amazing~ but i saw the potential it had to make my college experience better and my sophomore year was soooo much better than my freshman year and a big part of that was bc of my sorority. stay and try it out!!! also im literally staying at home all summer working and so are most of the people in my sorority haha. my "vacation" was literally just visiting fayetteville over the weekend
