Do any sororities actually care about their philanthropys? Which ones actually care and which ones only talk about it during recruitment

Some have fun and easy philanthropies like ChiO Make a Wish or Kappa Reading is Key or Zeta breast cancer awareness. It’s harder to get excited for AOPi arthritis foundation or DG blindness or KD Girl Scouts.

By: way it is

Not trying to say you didn’t have fun at our philanthropy day but the only reason Girl Scouts is (ONE OF TWO) our philanthropy is because Prevent Child Abuse America does not let us go work hands on with those who have been impacted unless we go through a lot of training. None of our money goes to the Girl Scouts, only our time. All of our money goes to PCAA and the Child Safety Center in Springdale.

some do and some don’t. i feel like alpha chi’s are super passionate about domestic violence awareness, trideltchio/zeta/adpi all have cancer related philanthropies that are really great and they seem passionate about theirs kappa and pi phi’s reading phianthropies kind of seem like an add on and they aren’t super into it. like, you wouldn’t go kappa or pi phi for the philanthropy lol. aopi arthritis and dg’s sight philanthropies are kind of just there and hard to get behind

add on - kd has a fairly good philanthropy in theory with child abuse, but i feel like they do more with girl scouts which kind of seems unnecessary. and i haven’t met a KD pumped up about girl scouts lol

but my kappa friends are super into reading is key. especially the education majors. everyone loves working with kids and it’s the only sorority that has their own national philanthropy not just helping an organization like Ronald McDonald House out.

every sorority has an AMAZING philanthropy!! You cannot “rank” philanthropies, that is just wrong. It is all volunteer work and donations for those in need, whichever house it is. If this was a PNM question, all of them are significant and all of them matter! If a specific philanthropy is really important to you, be sure to talk about it during recruitment :)

Thank you for saying that.

Dumb question but are there a lot of Girl Scouts in KD? I really like KD from what I’ve seen on social media but am not really the Girl Scout type.

by: Nope

Basically what they do is support local girls that participate in Girl Scouts by mentoring and sponsoring events for the children. It can be really fun and the girls love it. So NO you don't have to be the Girl Scout type.

I was wondering the same thing. I never really thought about the philanthropies until this post. The Girl Scouts at my school aren’t sorority types and I can’t imagine having to work with them all through college. Not trying to be mean.

Nope you don’t have to but it’s a plus! Those Girl Scouts in your high school won’t be those you’re working with if you are in KD. We work mainly with the elementary age girls. You only apply to be a Girl Scout mentor and not everyone has to do it. The only work you have to do is help raise money and support PCAA. But if you don’t want to do that all throughout college, it’s fine, be in another sorority. There are philanthropies for everyone if that’s really what it’s about for you!!:)

KD philanthropy is support of Girl Scouts as well as Child abuse America. They support these groups they are not members of these groups. For example Zeta is breast cancer you don’t have to know someone with breast cancer to support the cause... All sororities care about the philanthropy it’s a major focus to raise money and donate time For the cause

agree about the breast cancer but it’s not the same at all. supporting Girl Scouts is almost equivalent to having band as your philanthropy.

Want to be a part of a group- something bigger than yourself? Raise $$ and volunteer for a worthwhile philanthropy? Have some social events and make close friends? A family away from home during college? Recruitment for a Panhellenic organization could be for you.

There are also service oriented fraternities that are coed if that is more your scene. Also have social events- but all about service. Also a place to make close friends and find a home away from home.

This is silly. Let’s go further and debate colors. Come on.
