legacies
by: kdfSo are all the girls in chi o and kappa legacies? I heard they weren't allowed to cut legacies first day so that would mean the only girls standing after round one would be legacies

One of our best friends (Texas girl) who has mom as Chi-O alum was cut first round from UARK Chi O. She then went on to pledge another house (probably the 3rd-4th house according to this website). It was very sad as mom was a devoted Chi O Alum and also hosted an alumni brunch in their Texas city and very active alum. It seems that Arkansas "connections" in Chi O and Kappa are Mandatory, sad for these sororities as they are loosing top girls.

A good friend of mine from high school was a double chi o legacy. Her mom was a Chi O and her sister is an active at another school. Mom is a very active alum in Dallas. My friend was cut the morning of pref day, after being told during house tours that they couldn’t wait to have her in their chapter. She was devastated. It’s a crappy thing to do to someone but Chi O does it all the time. Needless to say they lost an awesome girl to another chapter!

Legacies usually get a courtesy invite back after first day rounds. After that it depends if the girl is a good fit or not. Honestly there are so many legacies that they don’t carry much weight unless they are a chapter legacy. Even then the girl may be way different from her mom 30 years before. Or even her sister. I respect that the Texas girl has a mom who is very involved in her sorority but this is Arkansas not Texas and so it’s not really taken into as much consideration as you think when final cuts are made.

Appreciate you confirming what everyone has been saying.....
As far as the older chapters go, it is all based on the zip code of your Panhellenic rec. that is obtained.
While there may be someone in the older chapters who claim unknown girls do get a bid— it is usually 1 or 2 who do.
It is truly an older chapter vs. newer chapter situation now. There are so many wonderful PNMs. University of Arkansas is more diverse than the older chapters want to recognize. AND the school itself will tell you that this year’s incoming freshmen were THE most academically prepared class they have had.

It’s not true ChiO and Kappa won’t take an oos girl without connections. They do all the time. It’s just those two houses generally get to pick whoever they want with all the other houses taking their basically leftovers. So yes they will be richer or cuter or more well connected than the majority of the girls going through recruitment.

U of Ark is evolving into a "primarily" 4 state university, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri due to the Out of State Tuition Scholarship. Pulling students from TX, OK and MO and the extra money they bring in has led to the amazing growth of UARK, not to mention pulling top students that qualify for the Out of State Scholarship. There have been 3 sororities added in last 7 years, plus AGD coming next year and Theta, Alpha Phi or GPB probably coming down the road.
Older Chapters that immediately cut terrific girls from these other states will lead to the 3, 4, 5, 6 houses rising faster and having the most awesome girls vs legacies/ARK zip code girls whose grandmothers were at UARK 50 years ago. Time for the "old guard" to be more inclusive if they want to remain top.
