Not really, especially if they are freshman girls. It's better than knowing nobody at all though. The more respected and influential your friends are the more the other actives will listen to their opinions on chapter matters like offering bids. Have your friends bring you around to things so you can meet other members, especially older ones. And the house has to be able to offer a spring bid; not all can do that, and sometimes those that can don't offer any.
