to the girl who dropped
by: Disappointed
To the girl who dropped because she only had “bottom” houses left:
You made a huge mistake. You lost the opportunity to be apart of something great. You lost the opportunity to be involved in Greek life because you were too stuck up and thought you were too good. You will soon learn that you made a mistake and will be alone and disappointed on bid day. You will be disappointed when you attended the freshman pep rally and see how excited the girls in those “bottom” house are. You will soon learn that EVERYTHING at the University of Arkansas is centered around Greek life.
You will see what you have missed when you don’t get to wear a button to the football game. When you don’t get to go to functions. When you don’t get to participate in the fraternity philanthropy events like watermelon bust, derby days, or carol of the Greeks.
You will soon realize that you missed out on an opportunity of a lifetime. You will soon learn that you missed out on sisterhood.
When classes start you will see the Greek girls have people to sit with in their classes when you are sitting alone.
You lost your chance by dropping. If you go through recruitment again you will have the same houses. If you go through COB you will have the same houses.
You made a mistake. You will regret it. You will be disappointed.

It doesn’t work like that sweetie. Most houses don’t do COB (they typically only do it if some people dropped and they need more members). And even if the “top houses” you would want do end up doing COB, they probably wouldn’t pick you anyway. They already cut you this recruitment, so they’d probably cut you in the future. You’d just end up with the same houses you have now.

I dropped out of recruitment last year and it still hurts. It was truly one of the worst decisions I’ve ever made. I can’t believe I turned down the opportunity because I was afraid of joining a “bottom” house. Now I wish more than anything I could be a part of any house at all

Transfer out of UArk and go to a middle size school where the rush isn't so competitive or start a Non-NPC sorority on campus (where quota and housing at not a big issue). I see from Greekchat website, there is a post requesting UARK get another sorority on campus, but concern that a new NPC sorority will not invest the $$$$ for housing. There's always alternatives.

I understand it’s dumb to drop out just bc a house is considered “bottom” but greek life should not be the most important moment of your college career. I’m sure these girls who dropped WILL have people to sit next to, they will make friends, they will party. You’re dumb if you think that your “sisterhood” is singlehandedly the most important part of your years at uark. if you’re reading this and you didn’t join a sorority, you’ll be fine. you’ll make it out with friends. just be social and don’t let this whole ideology cloud your mind!
