My beautiful and smart daughter who was so excited about recruitment called me this morning in tears because she only has a few “bottom” tier houses left. Before this week she was saying she did not care what house as long as she got in one. I think she has listened to everyone on here and in her dorm saying how awful it is to be in a bottom house. Please realize how hurtful your words can be to these pnms who came to college all excited and now have their confidence and hopes destroyed.

They say they are top tier. When you only have 12 on campus and over 1700 girls going through all house are great.

How would freshman in her dorm know how “aweful” it is in a so called “bottom” house?
They are not an authority, just girls trying to feel like they have some inside knowledge and they don’t.
Google “sorority tent talk”
Hopefully your daughter will move past her disappointment and find her home in a house that really wants her!
Good luck!

Please assure your daughter that all of the houses are good at Arkansas! With only 11 sororities at UARK, all of the houses are nationally recognized and have great sisterhoods that are active, fun, bonded. There are great girls that end up at all 11 houses! The 3-4 "bottom" houses are only the newer ones to campus, they are not bottom (or bad) at all, just newer and not as established on campus like the others. All of the newer chapters to UARK (DG, AXO, Phi Mu, then AOPi and KD) have solid national reputations and AXO, DG and KD are huge all over the country with excellent alumni organizations that members have for life. The self-proclaimed "top" are the ones that have been at UARK for 30-50 years and thus have more established UARK reputations. It's only conceit and the "pecking order" mentality (and a few "top" sororities that prioritize by zip code and looks and who wants that pressure??) that puts down these newer (to UARK) sororities. I've been watching the new groups and AXO and Phi Mu turned corner last year with PC 2017, awesome cute girls, popular, active, fun, smart like parties but also solid sisterhood which means friends for life, DG will be next. Please assure your daughter there are really no "bottom" or bad sororities at UARK, there can't be with 1700 girls rushing and 11 groups.

You can not rely on what you see on here. There are certain perceptions of each house but the reality is that every house on campus is filled with great young women and every house on campus has some not so great girls, Usually on here trying to out rank each other. A sorority with a great sisterhood is what every pnm should be looking for and you won't find it by falling into the ranking trap on here. Considering the numbers that have been going thru recruitment for the last several years it would be impossible for only the so called top houses to have all the top pnms.

My daughter has newer houses on her list. She is still excited and nervous. She is open minded and independent. She is smart and beautiful.

I hope she gets to pref these newer chapters. They are full of smart and beautiful girls who have worked so hard to help establish these chapters.
I would be so proud of her to wear their letters.

The T-shirts they are wearing today... Rise up to lift others (or something close) is spot on. Sadly, some of the girls missed the point.

Hi Mom,

Here’s a secret to share with your daughter: the ONLY girls who care about “tiers” are the freshman PNM’s. Seriously.

Every active knows that once you’re in a chapter and see rush from the other side, you feel like it’s a miracle you got a bid to any house at Arkansas. And you realize that every house has awesome girls who are more similar than alike.

It sounds like your daughter is mature so hopefully you can help keep her focused on why she wanted to rush: to make friends for life and have a home away from home at college. GL!
