from a small town what are my chances

by:

I'm from a smaller town in eastern Arkansas. It's only like 12,000 people. Almost everyone from our town goes Chi Omega or Kappa. Is it true that houses only take a certain number of girls from each town and if its a small town it's only like 2 or 3 girls and sometimes it's just 1. There are like 5 of the girls who are guaranteed a bid because they have legacy connections and the girls in the house a year older than all of us say they can get them in without any problems. I'm worried because I'm not a legacy to any house but I do have close friends in one of those houses.

Legacy connections help sometimes but nothing is guaranteed. Keep an open mind and do not limit yourself to only two houses.
Both of the above houses cut pnms who had a sister in the house so your friends should also keep an open mind. No one is guaranteed a bid and it takes more than just knowing people in the house.

You might end up in a house that doesn't have any girls from your little town. Being from Dallas there are girls in every house from Dallas. I think it would be kind of awesome to be in a house where everyone is new! Good Luck!

Top houses do limit small town girls. It gets to be totally high school and caddy if they do not. Some great houses have suffered from letting too many of these small groups in them because they can never seem to move beyond high school. For example saying they are guaranteed a bid or guaranteeing others bids both very caddy. Everyone from one small town all wanting to be in same house is another example. That is not what Greek life is about and gives it a bad name.

I have alumni connections in a top house. The alums make the final decision from what I've been told so I'm not worried at all. Any suggestions on what houses I should cut first? I don't want to lead anyone on when my decision has already been made.

I hope the original poster doesn't end up in my sorority. She sounds like the kind of girl most sororities try and weed out. Rush may just be the rude awakening this girl needs.....

If chi-o cuts you you're going to wish you'd taken all this advice.

Sounds like you would fit in perfectly with either one of those sororities.

My advice is to go through rush and tell every other house that you already have a for sure bid. That way they won't waste any more time on you after the first round and it won't take a spot from another girl who wants to be apart of a true sisterhood. Then pray really hard you actually get invited back to one of those two you mentioned above. Good Luck, sounds like you are going to need it.
