my humble opinion

by:

I came across this site while looking up recruitment info. Wow! I either didn't get the memo or you take this way too seriously. I'm not an honors student. I'm in band and have a tattoo. I have a quirky sense of humor. So according to this I'm automatically out of the running to some houses before they even meet me. Not to mention all these recommendations everyone says I have to have and how silly it seems I'm asking a grown woman I don't know to write a letter to introduce me to a school she never went to when they could just read my application. I'm going through recruitment to meet new people. If it works I'll be happy but if it doesn't I'll be ok with that too.

Hey girl! You do you! I was in the same situation and found my home in a "bottom" tier and couldn't be happier!

I went through recruitment with the same attitude and found a house that matched my style.

Rec letter are literally just a box we check. We don't even read them unless they are highly personal or from an influential alum. Maybe 20 years ago they were needed but with everything on social media to see I think the rec letters are a tradition only kept alive by alums who still want to feel important.

This is not true. Recs are required, at least for my sorority, by our nationals and we do look at them. When giving out advice make sure it's accurate.
