As long as they have public spaces large enough for the entire chapter that's really all they need. Not every member of any chapter lives in a house.

I completely understand, but with Phi Mu building and DG building they had to do something. It may seem illogical but they may be between a rock and a hard place regarding staying competitive within a set budget!

They're starting small in my opinion. Their house is not much smaller than the others. It's housing 19 less than DG and 20 less than Phi Mu. That's approximately 10 rooms less. A hallway, essentially. They are more confined to a strict budget. DG has been planning on their recolonization for much longer than we knew about and they had everything ready to go. AXO had the "go ahead" for a house approximately 6,000-9000 square foot larger than the house going up (new house size is 27,000 sqft) in 2013 (see AR Traveler archives) but the university recinded the land lease offer in late 2013 so they went to renegotiatation. This is what was settled on. They could always expand in the future. Before KKG remodeled, it only housed 75 at 31,000sqft. I really don't think that house size has too much to do with it. They are still new and every national chapters have different terms for housing. It's not fair to judge off face value. Alpha Gamma Delta is also coming and will need a house like all do and who knows where they will get the land. They will probably get the slot infront of the pi Phi gate so their house may also be small unless they can buy out the church on the land next to it.

There is no disadvantage to thinking ahead. History has its ups and downs. U of A may someday not need all the sorority space each home holds. PNM interest may decline. No sorority would dare build a home that sleeps 450 women! But having big spaces for 450 students to meet is all to the current good, and those same large rooms can be redone/repurposed in the future if/when pnm numbers decline.
