other options

I was left with two houses on pref that I honestly couldn't picture myself in so I ended up releasing myself from recruitment altogether today. It really wasn't how I wanted things to go but I didn't want to end up in a house that I wouldn't feel at home. Do I have any other options (snap bids, COB)?

They need to increase membership. They are considering COB. Their active members are very low.

depends on which houses ur interested in. usually axo does snap bids in the fall but it changes every year which ones do spring COB

Personally, axo was one of the houses I had that I just didn't feel at home in. Is there anything that I can do to improve my chances with the houses I loved?

Honestly, by withdrawing you both probably gave up your best chance of joining a sorority. There were houses that were interested in you and you decided you were too good for them. In a pledge class of 150+ girls, you were bound to meet your new bff's if you'd only put in the effort.

Cold hard truth:

1. snap bids are ONLY given out late tonight if a chapter doesn't make quota. Our chapters tend to make quota and if they miss by a few, snaps go to pnms who didn't return after receiving an invitation, not pnms they cut.

2. Chapters can only COB if they have fewer members than a number that Panhellenic sets. Chances are the chapters who will be eligible for COB are the ones you turned down today.

Arkansas rush is brutal. Any pnms with invitations left for Pref are LUCKY. PNM's need to be realistic - as much as it hurts, every pnm loves the "top" houses but the majority of PNM's aren't what those houses are looking for. Unless you happen to make a ton of friends in the houses you loved this week who will pull for you next year (and you make a 3.5+ GPA and you're involved on campus and you have stellar recs), there's not much you can do to make them interested in you.

My interest isn't in getting into a "top" house and I don't feel that I'm "too good" for any house, it was just that I didn't click with either of my pref houses during any round this week and I felt that I shouldn't take up a spot and be unhappy when another girl who would love it could have it. I'm just interested in seeing whether or not I still have a chance at finding my true place in the Greek system and looking for advice on how to do it, no need to be condescending.

You state the majority of PNM's don't have what the top houses are looking for??? Are you kidding me? Exactly what are the top houses looking for in a girl? I don't believe it has anything to do with not having the right qualities because many of the girls getting released are beautiful, smart, funny and were very involved in high school. In fact, from what I've seen many are prettier, smarter are far more qualified than the girls they are considering! I think what you meant to say is the top houses are looking to rush their friends or Arkansas legacies and if you don't have any ties or connections to a top house, you will not get in. Let's be honest, the top houses knew who they were taking before the PNM's even moved in, so OSS girls and others who have no ties to this college/greek system had no chance at those houses! The girls in the top houses are no more qualified, they just happened to know the right people.

No symparhy from me. The houses offering you a "true place in the Greek system" were the ones you rejected today. I'm sad for you that you didn't go to Pref because a lot of girls do fall in love with their chapters at Pref. Not every pnm gets a warm fuzzy "found my home" feeling during rush. Plus, the girls who would have become your bff's - your own pledge class - aren't even members yet. Once girls are in a house they tend to realize they don't spend much time with the upperclassmen who rushed them. It's all about the pledge class.

You're asking how to make chapters who released you interested in you. Unless you intentionally make A TON of friends in those chapters this year who can pull you in through COB (if their chapter is even eligible) or as a sophomore, I'm not sure what else to tell you.

Based on how viciously you're attacking her decision to drop shows that you're likely in one of the houses she may have withdrawn from. She already stated that she would be unhappy in those chapters and I'm not sure why you would want girls to join your house if their whole heart isn't in it. You're why freshmen feel so much pressure and ridicule during the process and lose faith. Not cool and sets a bad image for the rest of us. No need to be rude to someone asking for help.

Girls it's all who you know...nothing more nothing less, so don't take it personally! The girls that make it into the top houses are no prettier, smarter, or more outgoing than you provably are!!! It's not that any house probably disliked you, rather, they have 300 actives trying to get their friends in the house and they only have 120-150 spots to fill. So guess who gets cut??? Go out and meet people this year, so you can be one of the friends they will be fighting for when rush comes around next year!

Please reread!!!

Basically it's the good ole boys club except with girls. I had 2 rec letters to each house from SEC chapters, but not from Arkansas. I don't know anyone that has gone to school here, but decided to try something new. To any other future out of state that wants to rush if you don't have ARKANSAS references be ready to be cut.

I got dropped from my 2 favorite houses this morning. They basically had told me I was definitely in. They actives all knew my name, were telling me how awesome I was, how cute, funny, etc. Several came up and told me I was all of their rush crushes. One even told me she wanted me to be her little sister. Is that allowed? I'm so hurt and confused. Do they ever make mistakes and drop someone by accident?

the EXACT same thing happened to me, so when I got my hopes up and got cut I was crushed

i know with our rush, we can say "I like you, I can see you fitting in, my friends want to meet you, everyone who has talked to you loves you, etc." but you cant say "the whole chapter wants you here, or we like you." you can make personal statements but not anything that reflects the opinion of the whole chapter.

but yeah computer mistakes happen and with so many pnms rushing, its easy to fall through the cracks even if a few people are pulling for you.

Sounds like this post got hijacked by some angry moms that precious snowflakes got cut by top houses! Pnms were told you had to have connections and bid lists were already made for top houses but they didn't think it meant them. Kappa and PiPhi have lots of Texas girls but they are WITH connections. Top pnms WITH connections get top houses. Top pnms WITHOUT connections go to ALL other houses so a pnm shouldn't think they are too good (or as you say not a good fit) for ANY group! Rush is competitive at Arkansas and pnms should be grateful for ANY house that would want them!

by: well

and you're a b who thinks she's too good for everyone else. no one told pnms to go out of their way to meet as many girls in the houses that they want months ahead of time...? recruitment is to get to know the houses, the actives, and the pnms (or so they say)

this is honestly the most accurate reply on here. I went through recruitment with a 4.3 GPA, homecoming queen, president of numerous high school clubs, but i was from another state and didn't know a single person here. I had DOZENS (20+) rec letters for chi o and was cut on the first day. I had done everything right and was in my mind what a perfect ppm should be but i wound up in a bottom house but its alright. everyone finds their home somewhere. one of my friends who rushed as a sophomore who i had always though of as someone who'd totally get a higher house wound up in a house even lower than mine which was unexpected because she's basically a prettier and richer version of me. you never can tell where you're going to wind up and you should trust the process. You're trust in the process led you to drop out so thats where you are. email the presidents of the houses you loves and ask them about COB or spring and thats your best bet. or you could always rush again and go through the whole process again because there was a girl this year who did that and went from DG to tri delt so you never know unless you try

I'm not sure why people responded so negatively and rudely to my original post, as I meant no harm and NEVER said or thought that I was "too good" for any chapter. I genuinely think that my spot in those two houses should go to girls who had their heart set on it and had great connections all week. I simply asked if there were still other options to find my home after formal recruitment is over. I never meant any harm, I just wanted advice. I am OOS and my family is not Greek so I genuinely wanted to know how it worked. I think every chapter at uark is WONDERFUL but that doesn't mean I should take a bid to a house I didn't connect with. Please don't be so discouraging to girls who still want to be involved

Ok so...
As an alum from a "lower house" I can tell you it was a great adventure! I spent my entire undergrad in it and I loved it. I had a great big and was blessed with two littles who are still actives and wonderful ladies. The catch? I was a COB. I missed formal recruitment due to a leadership seminar where I had to be flown out to Cali for a competition. I still wanted a spot so I asked around. Only lower houses took COB so soon after recruitment. I wondered what house I would've ended up in had I gone formal but I took a bid as a COB and I'll admit it was so hard to get to know my PC. I joined 3 weeks after formal recruitment so all the girls had started to make bonds even before getting bids in their Gamma Chi groups. So I would've suggested at least giving them a shot. You could've dropped before initiation. Hell you could've dropped after a week if you seriously didn't make any connections. You didn't give them a chance. The girls who told you that you were in were essentially dirty rushing you. Maybe not to an extreme but they should not have said those things to you. It's not fair to you. I'll tell you, there is nothing low about MY chapter. Or any chapter. Any chapter at Arkansas is fantastic and I wish yo would've given them a shot. Try COB this fall if you want in, or kick some academic ass freshman year and join Alpha Gam next fall and THEN kick ass building up your chapter and the people in it. Good luck.
