what happens if a sorority cuts too many girls?

That rarely happens. Panhellenic gives each chapter a range of pnms to release each round based on historical return rates - i.e., if 95% of pnms rank ABC as a "1" then they will need to release more pnms than XYZ where only 85% of pnms rank them #1 if they are both supposed to have equal party sizes for the next round.
The goal is to have each chapter have enough girls returning each round that they will all make their quota. If a house cuts too much early week, they'll have to make smaller cuts the rest of the week to get their numbers back in line.
Again- RARE and not worth thinking about during rush!!

My older sister went through rush at Alabama a few years ago, and Chi Omega accidentally submitted the wrong list and dropped all of their top girls and gave invites to their bottom ones. They had to pay a fine per PNM to get them back (like $500 each...so they paid for their top 100 girls to be added back.) But that doesn't happen often. Good luck to all the PNM's tomorrow!

I have been on the the recruitment team for my chapter and it is not physically possible to cute too many pnms. Panhellenic will give each chapter a number of girls they are required to invite to the next round based on historically how they do, in addition each house is required to submit a flex plus minus list that they will use if the projected number of invites increases or decreases. It is not possible to cut too many pnms because if panhellenic estimated wrong and the number of invites is mch more they will use these flex plus minus lists to adjust the number of invitations given out
