Does this ever happen?

Rarely. Rank all of the houses you have left on pref and you are almost guaranteed a bid and don't limit yourself during the rest of the week either...use all your options

My former roommate didn't get asked back to the third round and it made things awkward

if you suicide, which means you only go to one house's pref party, your chances of getting a bid are limited.

"Suicide" in recruitment can be either of two things:

!) when you are invited back to 2 or 3 pref parties but choose to only attend one;

2) if you attend 2 or 3 pref parties but choose to only list one house on your final pref card.

Both those types of "suicide" mean "I will ungenerously attend only one home's pref party from the two/three that invited me" and "I will intentionally only list one of my several pref party homes as a choice where I want a bid", with both definitions strongly limiting your chances for a bid.

IF you are in a situation of having been given only ONE final pref party invite, then of course there is no penalty for listing just that house on your final bid choice card. That's not "suicide".

You have to go to all the parties you are invited to unless you have more than the max that day or YOU ARE REMOVED FROM RUSH.

If you get invited to 6 parties on the 5 party round, you can release one group. The majority of girls do NOT have the max every day.

If you get invited to 4 parties on the 5 party round, you CAN NOT choose not to attend one party because you don't want to go or choose not to give that group another look.

The same is true on pref, if you have one invite; go to one party.

Two or more invites: YOU MUST ATTEND TWO.

You don't have to put both of them on your pref card, but you must give each group a chance by attending both parties.

Only writing one group down when you went to 2 parties is "suiciding"
which is a huge risk. It is saying I would rather NOT be Greek than be friends with those other girls. Think about what that might say about you.

this happens more often than people think. they tell you that 94% or something like that get bids, but that does not include the girls that drop mid week, or get cut before the end. about 400 girls that go through rush will go without bids. I have two really good friends that got cut from everything after the first round of rush and they were even legacies. they wound up going DG and are super happy. They tell you that you'd go from 11 to 7 to 5 to 2 houses but that is not always the case. I went from 11 to 3 to 1 and received a bid from that one house i was left with. It is a popularity contest and a numbers game. I went to school here without knowing anyone and had dozens of rec letters for every sorority. I had a 4.2 gpa and was extremely involved in high school. I started clubs, was an officer for several honor societies, was homecoming queen, and had thousands of hours of volunteer work. I thought that I had amazing conversations in almost every house on open house, but I was cut from so many things that it gave me a reality check. Hell, I was even cut from alpha chi and they take virtually everyone. You can be absolutely perfect on paper, but they really do judge you on a lot more than you may think and that is okay. you will wind up where you are supposed to be and if you don't receive a bid you can always informal rush or rush again next year. Alpha gamma delta is coming in 2018 too and you could always join that!

Panhellenic informs pnms they are ALLOWED TO ATTEND UP TO 11 homes to 7 to 5 to 2; they NEVER GUARANTEE INDIVIDUAL PNMS WILL BE INVITED TO 11 then 7 then 5 then 2.

Any woman cut by all groups after first round is usually a very high grade risk and/or terribly socially inept. Women who drop from recruitment when they have invites are rejecting the process established by 26 united NPC sororities over the course of their 166 year existence.

Defining popularity: the more 'popular' homes are not allowed to bid all the women who want to join their groups. If you as a pnm receive invites from all available houses at all times, you must still whittle down your personal choice as to which homes you will attend.

No one needs dozens of recs for each sorority, that's just overkill. One or two for each home from persons who actually know you are best.

You as an initiated member understand every pnm looks super-important on paper with nearly identical educational, social, and leadership qualities from high school organizations. You also understand meeting pnms personally is the only way to learn which women will give their best always to your good sorority name.

This is so fake! Trust me something was wrong with you that got you cut from everyone! Maybe your ego and your dozens of recs.

Being cut from every home truly can happen, and there are as many reasons for it as there are sorority women making recruitment decisions. It helps no one to berate the poster above because she listed she knew of someone cut at third round.

I'm guessing you were cut because of your haughty attitude. Not amount of recs and service hours can cover a holier than thou personality.

Hey @y'all, you say that the chapters have to meet PNMs because everyone is strong on paper, but how does that happen when the open house parties only last 15 minutes and there are 400 girls in the chapter? There is no way a chapter can fairly evaluate each girl or am I missing something?

Top houses already have it narrowed down from 1800+ pnms to just a few hundred they are watching for during recruitment. Bottom houses are just happy pnms keep walking through the door. Middle houses are in between and this how they end up with great girls that could fit in at any top tier house!

Membership selection is private and varies by house. An unknown PNM can SHINE during her 15 minutes and get a bid same way a top pnm can BLOW IT and get cut first round. Just be yourself and let the system work!

Umm, nobody gets dozens of recs for each house. That would be overkill.

The odds of getting cut from every house is very slim unless you have really done some crazy stuff and/or your social media shows you in a bad light.

Be open-minded. Don't drop if you don't get invited back to the one you had your heart set on. It's just a numbers game and odds are you will find a home where you will be happy. Give every group a shot.

Over 90% of girls receive bids! If you get to pref and maximize your options, you WILL get a bid!
