what if i don't get a bid from any sorority?

this happens more often than people think. they tell you that 94% or something like that get bids, but that does not include the girls that drop mid week, or get cut before the end. about 400 girls that go through rush will go without bids. I have two really good friends that got cut from everything after the first round of rush and they were even legacies. they wound up going DG and are super happy. They tell you that you'd go from 11 to 7 to 5 to 2 houses but that is not always the case. I went from 11 to 3 to 1 and received a bid from that one house i was left with. It is a popularity contest and a numbers game. I went to school here without knowing anyone and had dozens of rec letters for every sorority. I had a 4.2 gpa and was extremely involved in high school. I started clubs, was an officer for several honor societies, was homecoming queen, and had thousands of hours of volunteer work. I thought that I had amazing conversations in almost every house on open house, but I was cut from so many things that it gave me a reality check. Hell, I was even cut from alpha chi and they take virtually everyone. You can be absolutely perfect on paper, but they really do judge you on a lot more than you may think and that is okay. you will wind up where you are supposed to be and if you don't receive a bid you can always informal rush or rush again next year. Alpha gamma delta is coming in 2018 too and you could always join that!

Hey @y'all, you say that the chapters have to meet PNMs because everyone is strong on paper, but how does that happen when the open house parties only last 15 minutes and there are 400 girls in the chapter? There is no way a chapter can fairly evaluate each girl or am I missing something?

Top houses already have it narrowed down from 1800+ pnms to just a few hundred they are watching for during recruitment. Bottom houses are just happy pnms keep walking through the door. Middle houses are in between and this how they end up with great girls that could fit in at any top tier house!

The odds of getting cut from every house is very slim unless you have really done some crazy stuff and/or your social media shows you in a bad light.
Be open-minded. Don't drop if you don't get invited back to the one you had your heart set on. It's just a numbers game and odds are you will find a home where you will be happy. Give every group a shot.

"Suicide" in recruitment can be either of two things:
!) when you are invited back to 2 or 3 pref parties but choose to only attend one;
2) if you attend 2 or 3 pref parties but choose to only list one house on your final pref card.
Both those types of "suicide" mean "I will ungenerously attend only one home's pref party from the two/three that invited me" and "I will intentionally only list one of my several pref party homes as a choice where I want a bid", with both definitions strongly limiting your chances for a bid.
IF you are in a situation of having been given only ONE final pref party invite, then of course there is no penalty for listing just that house on your final bid choice card. That's not "suicide".
