can't wait for recruitment!

by:

I'm a pnm who is so excited! I have all my recs, cute, outgoing, involved in my high school, above a 3.0. I really think I would fit best in ChiO or Kappa! My problem is I'm OOS with no connections except for one active who was a couple of years older. She was always super friendly with me but she was that way with everyone. Should I reach out to her over the summer and let her know I think we could be good sisters? Or will she know I'm coming when she sees my application? I don't want to go through recruitment and be cut because of a missed connection!

Ok. You are from OOS with NO CONNECTIONS but "really think you would fit best" in two specific chapters. Super. Just call those two homes and start a bidding war between them for your soul. No need to go thru the stress and heat of recruitment this August!

Have fun dropping out of real recruitment when those two homes do not invite you to their parties. Then be sure to come back to greekrank and whaaaaaammbulance the heck out of the Arkansas sorority recruitment system. See ya soon...

Probs don't be mean! She's excited, we all were, don't you remember? Okay sweety, I'm in one of those houses and have a lot of friends in the other and honestly, it's hard to get a bid without knowing girls, but not impossible! Just go in with an open mind and just really try to find where you fit in best! I know girls in every house that absolutely love it! There's really no bad houses on campus, just don't have your heart set on one because some houses might suprise you! Don't worry, you'll find your home!

how do you know that you'll fit best somewhere when you haven't even been through recruitment??? that's the whole point of recruitment! It's a mutual process.

I suggest you take a chance to get to recognize every sorority during recruitment instead of getting your hopes up

Having "connections" are pretty important in recruitment but they're definitely not the most important. Make sure you get rec letters for as many sororities as possible because you never know who you'll end up liking once the actual recruitment week begins. I'm from out of state as well and I didn't have any "connections" with girls in any of the sororities before recruitment. But because of my conversations during parties, I made connections with several sorority members throughout the week and those connections were the ones that really mattered in the end. As far as contacting your friend who's currently a member, she is not allowed to talk to you because of panhellenic rules (actives can't talk to PNMs after spring break) so I don't think it would be a good idea. I'm not sure how you decided that chi o and kappa are your favorites, seeing how you are from out of state and don't really know anyone yet, but you really should try to go into recruitment with an open mind. I was biased toward one house because I liked that chapter at the school near my hometown, but I quickly realized that we just didn't really have that same "connection" that I had with other houses. And last thing, don't choose a chapter just because they're a "top house." Those rankings literally do not matter once you're actually in a sorority and I promise you will have a far better college experience if you actually enjoy being around your sisters. Go where you think you'll find your best friends!

umm how do you know you would fit in best if you have no connections? If you don't know the girls you don' know where you will fit in. I know everyone says go in with an open mind, but you should try. Sororities are different at different schools, so keep that in mind. But go where you feel at home and comfortable.
