Your gpa is too low and those houses look at leadership positions not the number of activities

Why is 3.35 too low? There was only one sorority with an overall GPA considerably higher with a 3.6 and it isn't any of the ones listed above.. The majority of the sororities fall between a 3.4 and 3.2 overall. Just need someone to explain to me why someone who has the same GPA as most of the members doesn't stand a chance? Greek Life has overall GPAs listed.

if your high shool gpa is low then the assumption is you will have a lower gpa in college. not many girls go from a 3.0 hs to 4.0 college. why risk it when there are hundreds of girls with 4.0 and leadership, recs, connections.

I just did not know the reasoning behind expecting higher grades from pnms than you do your members. Thanks for explaining it . I do know that my private high school is far more challenging than most small town high schools. A 3.35 there would be equivalent to a 3.75 - 4.0 at most high schools. Since the average GPA for members is 3.4-3.2 in majority of houses how do you handle that many girls not being able to participate? There has to be a lot of girls that fall under the 3.5 that is required of them or is the GPA requirement lowered once you are a member? Sorry for all the questions but a lot of this is so confusing.

LOL! You do not have to have a 3.4/3.5 or above once rush is over. You can have a GPA lower than 3.4 and still participate in everything. As soon as rush week is over that GPA is no longer required. You can have a 3.0 and be fine!

Basically if you have a low GPA in high school, which is easier than college, you will most likely have a lower GPA in college. It's simple.

It's depends on where you go to high school. My roommate had 4.0 but had never taken a AP class. She finished out her first semester in college with a 2.5.

they do cuts at around 3.4. honestly you wont get them unless you knew the rush chair. not know who they are, but KNOW them. but you'll find a good house. good luck!

by: Go Greek

A rush chair that is being advised to pick who only they and a small portion of the membership want isn't a house you want to spend one day in. You do not want to be a part of a house who does not have a rush chair that is mature and intelligent enough to make fair decisions. Houses with good leadership overall do not have these problems at all. These problems only occur when you have advisors and other leaders within the house who lack good morals and judgement who participate in it by detecting a rush chair that will do this. Most of the houses have an incredible recruitment process set into place with amazing women devoted and dedicated in advising the girls on upholding fairness and the tradition of sisterhood. Unlike a house with poor leadership where recruitment is total chaos, where diviseiness and intimidation is encouraged among the members. The number of girls in recruitment is three to four times it once was which makes it possible for numerous houses to have tons of amazing PNMs which is a good thing. Unfortunately there are those with a lack of security to be able to support Greek Life as a whole and a total lack of intelligence to be smart enough to do simple math involving recruitment.

they already know who they want and your gpa is too low even if you are super involved and know the rush chairman which you don't or you wouldn't be in this site. you won't make it past the alumni. be open to lower tier houses that still can offer a great sisterhood.

You clearly aren't associated with any the 3 houses named above. But instead one of the houses that runs recruitment like high school just like your post.

Over 1600 hundred girls went through recruitment in 2016. Are you saying 75% of them did not get in what someone as delusional as you are considers a top tier house? There are more than three houses at the U of A that are "top tier". I know this disappoints all the mean girls out there. Thousands of girls have gone through recruitment in the past 10 years making it possible for awesome girls to be in a lot more than just three or four houses. This makes educated, kind, secure people happy that Greek Life is thriving at U of A and makes those who think they are far more important than they actually are even more insecure. The fact that you think over the last several years there are over 6000 girls that end up in your so called lower tier houses strictly by default and not by their own choosing is insanity. In fact, it's actually funny you think you can make potential PNMs believe it.

To all pnms. Don't just focus on the top three. All sororities have great sisterhoods! Honestly if you are asking on this site if you can get in one of those then chances are you won't. Be OPEN to all houses!

Pay close attention pnms. This is an example of the type of person who could be your future sister. A girl who likes to belittle and make fun of others Do not make the mistake of being subjected to verbal hazing by someone like this once you join a house. Someone like this does not discriminate and being their sister will not stop them from doing this very same thing to you.

To answer your question about the GPA: High School GPA for a PNM can not be compared to the average GPA of the sorority. that is comparing apples to oranges. A lot of the sororities will want 3.5+ high school GPA. But that doesn't mean a great girl with a lower GPA can't get in.

But like an above commenter posted, there are MANY more great sororities besides Kappa, Chi o and Pi Phi. With the HUGE influx of out of state girls going through Rush, ALL sororities have great cute cool girls with wonderful GPA, leadership, and wonderful friendship/sisterhood to offer. There just isn't enough room in the so called "High Tier" houses for all the "High Tier" girls going through. This is why ranks are dumb.

My sophomore year in English was harder than English Comp I II. So it's all relative to where you attended high school. I was not challenged at all until my sophomore year of college. "Advisor" it's a little scary someone your age is on Greek Rank.

GPA is a reason for a lot of cuts because it is a red flag towards your character and dedication. Sororities take up a lot of time but also your at school so they want you to be invested in that. This is why they want girls that have high GPAs and are very involved, because it shows that they can handle that and give them a good reputation.

PLEASE do not go into rush so closed minded and set on only top house sororities. there's great girls in every single chapter and you can have friends in every chapter as well as whichever one you pledge. Greek life at the UofA is like one giant sisterhood because the greek unity is so strong! I can not stress how important it is to not let rankings get to your head because it can ruin the whole process for yourself.

I was the one who started this post. I went to one of the most challenging private high schools in my state and having a 3.35 GPA is actually still impressive. Will the girls in sorority recruitment recognize that my high school is more challenging than most?

Everyone on this site has tried to tell you your gpa is too low. They don't take your school into account as lots of pnms go to challenging private schools. Look at it this way if you had a 3.5 you still need lots of leadership, strong recs, and most importantly in house connections. Not just people you know but actives that will stand up and fight for you and you need more than one active to pull you through. You also have to a great personality that shines to make the girl rushing you remember you. All actives have girls they want and are heartbroken when they get cut but it's a numbers game too. Top houses cut over 1000 the first day alone. So you may be awesome but so are 1000 other girls which is where connections come in. Please be open to other houses and don't listen to tent talk. Top houses usually don't waste their time on this site bashing other houses it's usually the middle tier trying to make themselves seem better than the other middle tiers. Lower tiers don't seem to care. I had a middle and top tier house and pledged a top tier but have friends happy in both top and middle. Go with your heart and be open to ALL houses and you will find your home! Pan love!

You will find the perfect house. It's my sophomore year and I love Greek life. I pledged a top five house and so did my girlfriend. It brought us together. I fell in love and also got a sister for life. It was nice to be in a place where we have figured out lately that we aren't the only ones. Love my sisters and the support they give our growing group.

No, as part of the "initiated members only recruitment knowledge process" no one is going to tell you which houses have what GPA cut numbers.
