race and sororities
by: HeyThis is for all of my fellow girls that don't fit the sorority girl stereotype in terms of race. I remember being in your spot last year and researching the heck out of all of the schools I wanted to go to, wondering if there was any chance I'd be able to "make it" in a historically white sorority. As an AA that rushed last fall at Arkansas, I say DO IT. Most of the sororities here will put you on even footing with everyone else. There are only two sororities that I feel like have a while until they openly accept AA girls, and I feel like their issue lies with their alum and not the current girls in the house. 8/10 isn't a bad deal. If you are worried about status (you shouldn't be), there are houses on EVERY tier that will welcome you with open arms.

It's interesting you say this because I've been telling girls this exact same thing. I'm actually curious if the 2 sororities you're talking about are the same ones I have in my head. Glad you found your place and being an inspiration to other AA girls out there that are in your position rn.
