Are recs super important here? I'm not a legacy of any house so should I pursue recommendations or is it not too big of a deal?

A rec in most chapters will give you an invite into round 2 which is longer. I would try to get recs for as many houses as you can. Recs also tell us a little about you and include a picture which lets us recognize you when you walk in the door.
