non ifc frats?

by: overthinker

So, I'm a new freshman and have talked a bit with the non-IFC fraternities (I think one brother called them "OFC"?). I just wanted some input on if its good or bad to join a non-IFC fraternity? Is it risky? Would it make me look bad going for an ASU job or joining USG? Would it make me look bad down the line to employers? Or do you think all of the fraternities may just soon leave IFC like at CU Boulder and Santa Clara and govern themselves? I know joining a fraternity is not about what other people might think, but I basically am concerned if non-IFC could be a liability for me in the long run.

Long-term, employers will not care whatsoever whether you were in an on-campus or off-campus one. At all.. As long as you're in a chartered one with national support, IFC's recognition means absolutely nothing.

Even short term, you won't have a problem getting an ASU job or joining USG. TKEs and Sigma Chis have and are in USG and they're not on campus. As long as you conduct yourself well, it doesn't matter.

If anything, being in an off-campus house might actually be LESS risky. You don't have to constantly worry about the school breathing down your neck and collectively punishing you every time you do anything that pretty much any college kid does.

only thing good about off campus is raging harder.
On campus you get to be more involved with the sororities. So depends what you want

Off-campus is inherently less risky. If you get in trouble with an on campus fraternity then you will be disciplined through the school which could cause issues with on campus organizations. Plus, FSL is super corrupt so whoever is on campus can and probably will be leaving campus within your four years.

I actually am a freshman and I don't think I know that much about greek life at all. If I knew, I wouldn't be asking. Are you saying that I shouldn't join one? Or are you saying off campus frats are crap? Who's your attack on?

since I started at ASU countless fraternities have been kicked off, so there is a good chance that if you join a good fraternity that is on campus, that they will get kicked off during your 4 years there. So, might as well join a house that has proven they can survive off campus...
