what is the point of rankings?

Honestly though. What purpose does ranking different fraternities/sororities serve besides dividing our community and feeding fragile egos? Isn't greek life more than just being in the 'top house'? Why waste so much time and energy ranking entire organizations based on superficial appearances, dated reputations, and rumors?
