opinion on off-campus fraternities

by:

First I'm not bringing in the relevancy or any of that crap to this, this is about what you should consider about off-campus fraternities. I know that one of the off campus fraternities might still have their charter. TKE? Correct me if I'm wrong. So hear is my take on off-campus fraternities:
The liability of a non-chartered or non-recognized by the university chapter is through the roof. If you have joined or are a part an fraternity that had its chartered revoked, leave now! The ramifications of staying put you in grave danger. If something bad happens you are screwed! There is no nationals to bail you out. There is no insurance to cover things. If anything goes wrong it's solely on the 'members'. You may think that you have all this freedom to do whatever you want now that you don't have to be tied down with ASU or your Nationals, and you do; however just remember that with all this freedom comes great risk to you and your brothers. So take this in to consideration if you have recently pledged or are a member of an off-campus fraternity.

TKE still has their charter from their national organization and so they have them to "bail them out". And there's less risk with them because they no longer have to deal with the school's regulations and punishments from them.

I literally said they still have their charter from their national organization. So they are still covered by a multi-million dollar insurance plan and have a national org to back them, and someone to "save" them.

I know! I'm excluding them from this conversation! That's why in my original post I said that they still have their charter. I guess I didn't explicitly say they are exempt from this, but figured if I was talking about how not having a charter is bad then it would be somewhat obvious that I was no longer talking about them.

This is literally the most educated respectful and informational post ever put on this website. Why can't people just give information and rankings like this without bashing each other. Bravo

Yes this is true but it would be hard to call out an entire unofficial organization if something happens. If a girl got burned at say Sig Chi than the person who actually did it would be responsible not the members of a chapter that technically doesn't exist anymore.

That's definitely a possibility! I'm just thinking though that if a girl was at a Sig Chi (or any fraternity) party and that happened, she is going to say 'oh it was ole joe blow that burned me'. She is gonna say 'i got burned at a _____'s party'. So you could be right that they could go after an individual, but I feel like when something goes wrong the entire group will be punished.

if this is some bottom tier loser or asu writing this to stop kids in other houses off campus thats just sad and lame. Sorry no one rushed you guys and you have to come on this site to encourage kids to rush in fall. all the good and top houses at asu get kicked off. if you want to be in chi phi, delta sig, pike or whatever other loser house go be in it. They are always on the bottom and do whatever micheal crow says. Never get laid and throw parties that are worse than high school ones. Sorry guys do not let these GDIs scare you.

Wait really? You're calling someone pathetic for in your words being "worried about other people"? This is why Greek life at ASU is seen as a joke, no one has respect for anyone else and when someone tries to do something respectable and morally right people call them out for being pathetic. So no my friend, you are the pathetic one. Learn a bit about respect and grow up.

its possible for a local fraternity (no charter) to get insurance...i doubt any at asu do but it exists if they are really dedicated.
