It's probably because of the rise of social media where random losers online comment on how "chopped" frats look or how they bid "weirdos". These guys are absolute pussies with nothing better to do. It's honestly crazy how frats these days are acting like sororities. The whole system is fake af. Like frats claim to mold people and turn them cool when that is how that is supposed to be to look for kids who have potential and DO want to party and will pay dues as long as they're not a total creep or ***hole. But instead, they want guys who already fit that mold so they can pride themselves on being exclusionary. It's just basically high school with more alcohol and parties. It honestly sucks how if you're a guy, most of the social life revolves around frats and you have no access to them if you're not in one so I totally feel you. It sucks that guys who have their only chance to have a college experience and DO want to improve their appearance and personality are missing out because of how fake these people are. Like frats including ones you know some people in act friendly at first but then dont even invite you to a single invite only event
