"Classy" may be overblown, but there's a HUGE difference between houses that value composure and those that don't. Look at girls who drink in their letters, dress like strippers to go out, get sloppy at parties, or have fb pictures of themselves twerking. That speaks volumes.
And stop bashing pageant girls, you all sound jealous and pathetic. Is your body in good enough shape to walk on stage in a swimsuit? They worked hard to look good, kudos to them for dedication and confidence.

nobody is jealous of pageant girls. They make fools of themselves. You slam some women for tweaking and then all huffy cause some people slam skewers walking around in high heals and swim suits. You sound jealous to twerkers. Pagaent women are no better. All skeezers.

What do you care how women dress or how they dance or the pictures they post?
It is their body and life, so why do you care. Good for them for having the confidence to twerk.

You know- pageant women put themselves out there. Some people aren't going to like what they stand for (which incidentally is very denigrating to women). Those people have a right to voice that they don't like it. Loads of women who don't put themselves out there, who are just minding there own business get maligned on this website and in the greek system at ASU and nobody really stands up for them. Why don't you save your energy and defend real victims of bullying instead of cheese ball pageant people.

it does affect me when I have to see that sleezball in all those advertisements around campus. I really don't want to see fake chichis pushed up in a picture telling where to shop. It becomes my business when I have to look at cheesiness shoved in my face. otherwise I don't care what people do.

what people do does effect one another. That is why we have a panhellenic council to deal with these issues. At the end of the day,it is a woman's choice if she wants to degrade herself and be in a talentless pageant. But to say it doesn't effect all of us isn't really true. We just have to deal with it. I don't like the image the greek system puts out to the ASU public. I particularly don't like the behavior of the "top" sororities. It isn't that I'm jealous. It just feels like they think they are the moral compass for all of us. They aren't. They effect all of us with there "everyone look at me" vibe. It gets old. When people speak up about it the pat answer is "you're jealous." That really doesn't help us get anywhere.

If a sorority has one woman enter a pageant once in a while, I would say "whatever." After all, a truly diverse house has lots of women with different interests, values and goals. But when a particular sorority turns themselves into a pageant factory (sort of like the country of Venezuela ) then I think we are dealing with some really creepy values coming out of that house. Of course women working hard toward a goal is a good thing, but when that goal is to strap on high heals and shake it with almost nothing on, I'm concerned for women in general. I'm sorry, but I do think it is sleazy and a detriment to women. You can call me "jealous" but that is my feeling. I don't like that the pageant women then go and put other women down for drinking or Facebook photos. Why is shaking it at a pageant any better then at a bar? I know we should all support each other, but I don't support pageants. I think they hurt us all.

This is how most sorority women at ASU feel. Sadly, we have very little voice over the "top 4" houses who seem to take up all the air in the room. I agree about respecting personal choices. I will say that one sorority churning out pageant queens does make me uncomfortable around those women and a bit uncomfortable as a woman in general. I wish that society had different values. Most sorority women at ASU are mellow non-hotties. I wish we got more credit and were valued more at the school. Wishful thinking I guess.
