why is there so much hatred towards pike?

by:

Honestly, I do not understand all of this hatred towards PIKE. They are all very cool guys who are very hot and know how to have an awesome time. There parties are one of the few houses i feel safe at. Can anyone give me a legitimate reason why you hate them?

and Delta Sig both consist of guys that either did not get a bid from any houses or they wanted to go the easy way out and not pledge. When you pledge a house, you devote your time to your fraternity. They're basically equivalent to another club at ASU, just with greek letters. Actual fraternities have real pledge processes, close-knit brotherhoods where everyone is connected on a personal level and alumni. I bet guys in PIKE don't even know all of their brothers names or where they're from.

You are absolutely correct when you become a pledge for a house that you devote time to your fraternity. However, starting a fraternity from nothing gives you a way greater appreciation for your house. Contrary to your statement (won't speak for Pike) starting a fraternity from nothing and not knowing anyone actually brings you way closer than what I can imagine being hazed together would be like. Putting in hard work week after week and trying to get chartered and make a decent name for yourself on campus does make a brotherhood. You may say that when a bunch of guys are just given a bid that they won't connect and they don't understand brotherhood, well you are right.... at first that is. After a year or more with the same guys, winning homecoming, winning some intramurals together and a bunch of other things I'd say there is a good chance that a strong brotherhood will come.

Yep I am a delta sig! It wasn't the easy way out though. It was a completely different experience than the normal pledge process. It wasn't a cop out to do what was easier, in my eyes it was more difficult. Sure I could've gotten hazed for 14 weeks then get initiated, but when the opportunity came up to restart one of the best chapters at ASU(i know we aren't them and you think we'll never be like them, which is true we wont. sorry) I thought wow this is a great experience that most would never get the chance to do, but knew it was going to be tough work. If you think we are try hards then that's your choice. I can assure you though that for the most part, all we care about right now is making a solid foundation for the future, not to impress any of the other fraternities on campus. And honestly, known of the other fraternities even know anything about us (i'm sure you don't care to know either) which is fine by us. Just a reminder to all the other fraternities that think that we took the easy way out, that none of your fraternities started at asu. That means at one point in time there were guys that wanted to start a fraternity at asu and were the first ones who supposedly 'took the easy way out'. I in no way think that we are better than anyone else on campus.

I completely agree. Both these fraternities are USELESS to our Greek Community.

Pike: 200+ non initiated dudes, been around for 6 months, some athletes, few cool ones, mostly wierdos, douchey, get in fights, haven't won anything I know of, ALOT OF WORK TO DO!!!
D-Sig: 100+ initiated dudes, about 1 year on campus, show respect, non douchey, decent presence on campus, won homecoming. Still have some work to do though obviously

I'm a Pike at another school and I refuse to call these colony members brothers. As far as I am concerned, they are all still pledges. LemmeEducateU, who are you trying to convince? If you didn't pledge like every member of any legitimate chapter in the United States then you can't argue against a traditional pledge process. My intensive, 14 week pledgeship brought me closer to my pledge brothers than any of the ASU Pike will ever be to one another. I know ASU Pikes who can't even name all the members in their chapter; it's embarrassing.

I blame the Pike National Expansion Team for doing a "Line them up and Sign them up" recruiting, instead of actually recruiting a core group of quality guys to build the colony into a successful chapter. The "let's sign anyone and everyone" just to get high numbers and to be the biggest on campus NEVER works. All you get is arms, legs, heart beat and a pulse that really "DO NOTHING" to build a colony. All these guys a good for is just wearing letters and saying I am a brother of Pike, which really does not amount to much.

I would also agree with the above statement. To be a top house does take time (usually a few years) and the dedication of the core founders and the future generation of brothers to establish that goal and build together a solid foundation for the chapter success. Pikes just want to come to a campus and grab as many men they could just be the biggest and the most dominate on campus, without doing any of the hard work, like most of the top houses have done. I see failure in their future.
