nervous!! feel like i wont get a bid
by: PNMim really nervous to rush a sorority. i feel like they all gravitate towards choosing the same blonde white skinny girl with an amazing social media feed and drop everyone who doesn't fit that. i have dark hair and I'm not a twig but I really can have great conversations with people and I love to talk to everyone regardless of their background. i feel like im easy to talk to, get great grades, dress cute, and fit that "sorority" type but somehow i still feel inferior because my hair isnt white and im not tan or a twig and I don't have a million designer bags. i sometimes wish that these 19-21 year old girls didn't get to dictate these things and that actual adults or alumnae got to choose who was invited back because they have more maturity and life experience. i did a great application on the registration too but for some reason I feel like there's a chance I will be dropped from a lot of sororities even though I have a great personality and care so much for people. and also I'm nervous about sorority hazing, if they haze me I'm literally dropping that same day

hey girl. i can promise you that sororities are not just looking for skinny popular blondes. every chapter has an amazing and unique group of girls. sororities will showcase their best just like how girls post their best pictures. don’t base all your decisions on social media because i promise each chapter has many more girls behind their instagram. it sounds like you’re a great girl that would be an amazing addition to any chapter. hopefully going through recruitment will show you the side of each chapter that isn’t just social media. i can also say no sororities haze at asu. even if you hear rumors they aren’t true. just be yourself and you’ll find the right home for you. <3

you sound like my "sistah from another mistah!" i'm a short, curvier (still very fit), brunette and found a home i love. but i can tell you that after going thru rush last year, i dropped certain houses (and were surprised by others that invited me back) if the overwhelming majority were "tall, skinny, white girls." just somehow felt like i didn't belong...and diversity of looks, thought, and life experience are really important to me. i didn't want to feel like i was chosen as a diversity candidate (fyi, i'm white) or in a "sterotype" house from 20 years ago. i can assure you that there are multiple houses that you will feel comfortable in.
