Because you abide by the strict guidelines from the school because your nationals will pull your chapter otherwise means you are cooler. Correct.

this is a good point. Unless you're sucking ASU's D, why is being affiliated so important? Clearly, these houses have the support of their nationals and ARE recruiting ASU students. News flash, several IFC fraternities at ASU have members who are in community college, and the majority of the members in almost any house will only have negative things to say about ASU administration if asked. So, why care if a fraternity has no relationship with them? This is coming from a guy who wishes his house would find a way to thrive off campus.

Newsflash what IFC on campus fraternity has community college members? Theoretically the only fraternity that can accept students that do not even attend ASU are the ones like yourself who have NO affiliation with ASU. YOU have become like a COSTCO membership club!. ANYONE from a high school drop out to a jr college atendee to a current high school student can join your "club" with a "membership fee"

To be honest, I don't even know anyone very well in sig chi, dke or tke so i cant say if they have cc members as brothers. However, my house has a few and I have met guys in cc in many on campus fraternities. You are kidding yourself if you think it's impossible. There are a few ways this happens. A brother who was at ASU loses a scholarship/gets on academic probation and goes to CC for a while hoping to transfer back and stays active. Or an active's younger sibling/best friend who's attending CC rushes. Just because they can't be on the IFC roster doesn't mean they aren't in the fraternity. Oh and if they used to be at ASU they have suncards and can do intramurals. My own chapter's bylaws just state that members must be attending ASU or another near-by college that doesn't have it's own greek system

That is just ridiculous to bid students that don't even attend ASU your fraternity must be desperate and really suck. Do you invite high school students or technical school students also? ...lol

Pathetic? Sure whatever. But my point is it has nothing to do with a house being on campus or off campus. And if you had a good brother who couldn't attend ASU any more for financial reasons who started going to CC to finish prereqs and wanted to stay active, would you not let him? For the record I have friends at a school with much better greek life than here back home (UTexas) in the top 2 fraternities there (FIJI and SAE) which make ASU SigEp look like DTD, and their fraternities have CC members too.

Frats at UT would never have anybody form a cc they bid members on area code wealth and alumni you clearly have no idea about Texas Greek life or what you are Talking about. And you can't compare the two Greek life's but kids from sig ep could get a bid from top houses over there

You are the f&cking idiot, I'm from Memorial (Houston TX) and know multiple people from high school (Memorial, Stratford, Kinkaid, St Johns, Episcopal), who went to St Edwards and ACC and got bid at FIJI and SAE. They go by area code, wealth, and connections and many kids coming up from the right areas with money and who know the right people still don't get in to UT. They get their bids several months in advance and move up to Austin going to ACC or St Edwards and pledge. Many try to transfer but not all get in (considering you need a 3.6+ for a good chance).

@this Why would the two "top houses" at UT admit CC students? They are obviously not top houses if they need to find members at the local community college to join. Personally I had no idea you don't even need to be a student at the school to rush a fraternity. I know at my frat I am sure you have to be an ASU student. If someone rushed us and said he attends Mesa community college of Lyles Beauty college or the college of mortuary science or perhaps not even a student we would laugh him out of rush and escort him to the door.
All I can say is if your fraternity rushes non ASU students they must be pretty desperate and pathetic and furthermore if an IFC fraternity I think should be investigated and kicked out if they are admitting non ASU students.

@this Are those two chapters SAE and FIJI listed as being affiliated with UT or ACC and St Edwards Community College?.. yeah thought so. I can see a scenario if a brother is already initiated in your fraternity and has to go back to CC because of finances or grades but to actually rush someone with no ties to ASU is really wack. I had no idea ANY fraternity was allowed to rush members with no ties to the affiliated University.

Obviously random kids rushing from CC should/will be laughed off at any decent house. What I was referring to is in many houses you'll have a group of friends (5-10 guys) from the same HS class who all pledged together and they may have 1 guy left from their friend group who's attending CC that fits in perfectly with the fraternity and gets a bid. This is not that rare. Now, letting some joe shmo from MCC who shows up to walk around pledge would be ridiculous, but not talking about that.
