legacy

by:

Hiiii I'm a legacy to AdPi and Zeta--but I'll be rushing as a sophomore here next year. How big are these sororities each on giving preference to legacies? Like if they're big on legacies, will that override the fact that I'm a sophomore (if they otherwise wouldn't give me a bid because I'm a sophomore)?? Thanks!

ADPi thinks very highly of legacies

By: well.

They do NOT think highly of legacies! I am a legacy and they cut me! I guess I wasn't pretty enough for them.

I heard they haze the legacies worse than the other new girls

Well please do not listen to the 2 girls above me. Unless you're completely crazy, being a legacy is important

You'll get a little bump up for being a legacy but being a legacy does not guarantee you a bid. I would go in with any open mind to all chapters. Not just the ones you are a legacy to.

And being a sophomore might hurt you with ADPi but not Zeta since they'll take anyone... lol

being a sophomore won't hurt you. legacies are given extra attention but that doesn't guarantee a bid, but it definitely helps. I haven't heard much about adpi or zeta cutting a lot of legacies in the past.. but if they have, it was probably because the legacy was crazy. Just make sure to keep an open mind!

sororities will only cut legacies if you're a psycho, other than that, you should be fine

by: Adpi

Thanks but I am not a psycho. I would say I have average looks and a good personality. I even felt like I clicked with them. They DO cut legacies. Trust me!

My sorority cut a girl who we somehow mixed up and didn't know was a legacy a couple years ago, and we only realized afterwards...it was a HORRIBLE ordeal and so so embarrassing for us and we couldn't undo it. I doubt this is very common, but it has definitely been done--recruitment is insane and there are so many girls going through that details sometimes slip up

ADPi (along with Chi O, DZ, ZTA and Phi Mu) always has a lot of legacies at ASU since they're a nationally southern chapter. Because of this, their nationals let them cut a certain number bc otherwise they could have a whole pledge class of legacies alone!

Being a legacy helps a bit but you still have to meet the chapters standards for new member selection (grades, personality and everything else). Best advice is to be open to all chapters.

usually sororities have to call their nationals in order to drop a legacy. at a school as small as app is, most of the time a sorority will have to have a valid reason to give to their nationals in order to be given permission to drop a legacy. it's unusual for a sorority at app to drop a legacy for no particular reason. don't be discouraged and keep your options open! there are a ton of great sororities at app.

true... it's difficult to cut a legacy (nationals has to approve it)... but when a chapter has a ton of legacies go through, they are allowed to cut more than usual

Go into recruitment with an open mind. Just because you are a legacy does not mean you will like or fit in with the girls in the chapter. And other sororities like nothing better than to gloat over bidding a legacy from another chapter.
