There is a lot of clubs on campus that you don’t have to pay for. Rushing and joining a frat/sorority is basically paying for friends. Why go into debt when you can make friends easily in clubs or your dorm hall. Let nature take its course. That’s just my perspective. I’ve made a lot of friends in classes, my hall, and other clubs.

No. It’s like every other club. Clubs have fees in order to function. If you join a club sport there is obviously going to be fees to pay your equipment and jerseys. Frats/sororities function the same way. They use the money for functions/mixers, philanthropy events, etc. You aren’t paying for friends.

I hate this stereotype! No sororities/fraternities are not necessarily for rich people. All clubs have fees/dues!

Greek life isn’t necessarily for rich people only. I’m in an organization and neither myself nor my family is rich at all lol. Yes every other club has dues but usually nowhere near as expensive as it is to be in a Greek organization, especially for sororities. Really you have to decide if it’s worth the money for you. Greek life opens up social life that is unparalleled, it’s not “buying friends” but it doesn’t provide you with a network of people to meet which you might have otherwise never met and can help you find your best friends and like minded people, it looks great on a resume especially if you hold/held positions, it can provide you with connections in the business world, it can give you a sense of belonging, etc... If you can budget properly and/or your family is willing to help you or you don’t mind working to pay for it, it’s pretty affordable when it comes down to the pros and if it’s attainable for you financially, even if that means having to work or have help.

I mean it’s expensive but it’s not just for rich people. If you are the only one paying for it then yeah you might want to get a part time job to keep up with dues but you can make payments which can make it easier on you if you save up.
