sororities on probation

by:

I will be going thru recruitment this fall as a freshman. I see that 2 sororities are on some kind of probation. Will they still recruit new members? How are they affected by their probation status? Why would a PNM consider a sorority that's already in some kind of trouble?

Everyone gets in trouble at some point. It doesn't mean they're a bad organization because of it.

Yes it's all in the matter of who gets lucky enough by not getting caught, haha! I heard what AGD got in trouble for was over a frat date vandalizing a bathroom at a date function, it's a shame a whole organization gets a bad wrap or put on probation for one wasted frat guy!

The only problem you may run into is that since they're in trouble they might have some social restrictions which would suck

personally I can say that it's likely they will have more focus on sisterhood than social events due to the restrictions. That said all organizations here have amazing qualities, probation or not.

Would they still be able to have formals and mixers given their probation status? I'm also interested in rushing and noticed this online as well. This doesn't really impact my decision, I'm just curious.

It honestly just depends - they may only be limited to a certain amount of functions such as mixers, semi formal / formal. It usually goes by semester too. They'll definitely have some sort of social function though. And like someone said above, everyone gets in some sort of trouble at some point - and while it should be taken seriously, also remember stuff happens and most of the time it's a one time thing that was by accident or didn't mean for it to turn out the way it did. Just go through recruitment in with an open mind, regardless because each organization is filled with so many great and amazing women! :)

They won't be allowed to have any socials, mixers or formats of any kind with other Greeks. They'll be able to have sisterhood events still with just their sorority.

During your sorority pledge period, all the chapters will be having events besides the ones restricted so it stinks for the new girls coming in. I'd like to think it won't effect them in recruitment but I honestly can't imagine my pledge period without all the fun from the socials. It's what bonded me with other Greeks and my girls.

this is not correct - it isn't nice to spread false information unless it's been announced by PHC - and even then that isn't nice, it's the organizations job to correct themselves and address it. Not you!

Alcohol and underage drinking

Risk Management Concerns does not mean just alcohol and underage drinking. Each is different and it all has to do with the individual sororities national headquarters and what they mean by risk management concerns. AGD and DZ could be on probation for risk management but it mean different things from their national headquarters. Don't assume that means alcohol or underage drinking.

Either way it stinks for the new girls. No mixers & socials isn't fun for your first year.

I know for a fact that AGD social functions aren't limited for this coming year, people need to get their facts straight!!

AGD will be having all their social events & functions this year, every sorority or frat gets probation from time to time! Probation for AGD was for last semester, they were a new sorority formed two years ago and miscommunication on some of the rules during events & functions were part of the problem, every sorority or frat has probation from time to time, go back & look up your facts!

Probation doesn't automatically mean no mixers or socials, especially if it is with the national organization. They set their own rules and guidelines based on the infractions that led to the probation. Don't just assume an organization won't have socials. More importantly, don't select on organization with that in mind. If you connect well with the women, you will do so with or without mixers.

Doesn't everyone realize people from other sororities get on here to down rival sororities or frats to make them look bad, so childish! They all have things they get in trouble over, they ALL do the same things, it's all in who gets caught or not, cmon people, GET REAL!!
